I've posted recently regarding our house above, and siding color. It is being resided with steel (lap style) siding. I've chosen a color almost identical to the current body color shown above. We are starting by just siding the back of the home, but I have to decide if the corner trim pieces of the house, etc. will be the same color as the body, or different. We are also having white vinyl windows installed, so I was thinking I would use off white for window trim, to hopefully not leave the windows so stark against the darkness of the house. I'm not sure how far to take that color in terms of soffit, gutters, house trim etc. There is a lot of trim in the front, and I'm not sure if off white in too many places will be too contrasty/busy or not. I know my house isn't craftsman style or cottage, but I gravitate toward those styles. I really like those homes trimmed in white/off white, but I'm not sure how much I can get away with on my house? Right now the soffits and fascia on the sides and back of the house, are the same color as the body, but I feel like maybe it only works with the lighter trimmed front, because the trim and body color are so close. The gutters in front, need to be replaced at the same time the back is sided, since they are rusting out. This means I need to have more of a concrete idea as to eventual colors in front. So, what would you do? Is there anyone who would want to take the time to create a mock-up? I would, but am not Photoshop literate :) I apologize to anyone tired of seeing pictures of my house!

Hi all, thank you for sharing your opinions and advice! Certainly giving me lots to consider and makes me reconsider keeping even if there is only one sanding left in them. So the reason he said there was only one sanding left was in reference to the amount of wood left above the nail heads used. the photos don't show it, but there are about 3-4 areas of the floor where it's more significantly damages from water, etc. where the recommendation was to splice in matching planks to that area if wanting to preserve the rest. one room on the second level as a big hump in it and due to sagging front porch underneath which we are repairing next fall, as well as large pet stains (I think) in one area. I don't want the floors to look perfect, as we refinished in our current century home and I love the character that lets you know they are original, but I worry about not being able to refinish 20 years down the road if this is truly the last sanding before hitting nail heads . But interesting comments about product where you can just spot sand. I will definitely explore this further. The advice came from our friend who will give us the flooring at cost but just charge full price on labour/installation, so I believe he actually could make more from managing the refinish and is just giving a heads up about the long term needs of the floor. But is by no means an expert on refinishing antiques so I am glad to hear other opinions and experiences here!

These renderings are tremendous! I agree the white is too stark and the front does look unfinished, particularly the steps. I would never have thought of the portico...wow what a look! I love the last two. Thank you for the inspiration

Thanks for everyones comments. The preparations of the exterior along with weather have delayed the painting and I'm still trying to finalize the brick and trim colors. I mention BM Dove White for the brick but am also considering a few others such as; BM Dove Wing, BM Seapearl, BM China White and BM Swiss Coffee. I have a lot of trees and bushes so want the color to read white in the sun and shade but not overly white or creamy. Thanks for your input.
