Comments (13)I have a few favorites I give every year: Mixed vegetable mustard pickles - This is my sister-in-law's favorite. Since we go to her house for Christmas, it is a must. Peach-orange-ginger marmalade Apricot-Necterine-ginger jam Blackberry jelly (from the bushes behind my house) Spicy tomato ketchup I tried some new things this year: Orange jelly with pinot noir Blueberry-orange preserves (a new version of an old favorite) Ginger jam (no one would guess that I love ginger) I also make candy for holiday gifts. I have 20 pounds of Callebaut callets - bittersweet, extra bitter, milk and white - sitting in my pantry along with nuts, dried fruit, liquors and everything else I will need. That process starts after I feed everyone for Thanksgiving. Elaina...See MoreYour favorite decorating book(s)?

Comments (16)Suds in Your Eye This is copied from the link below but a good recap of these books I read them (and have them somewhere) abouttwenty years ago they were a riot and maybe Mom would get a kick out of them. Ieven have Mrs. Rasmussen's cookbook xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx My all time favorite fictional character is Annie Feeley, one of the stars of the show in this Mary Lasswell book about San Francisco during the WWII era. Suds in Your Eye is one of a series about three ladies, two widows and a spinster, who, although they may be a tad chronologically challenged, never let ANYTHING get them down. When I first read the books I was too young to enjoy them, not getting the jokes, not understanding the culture of war time America. (And reading them even today can be a great way to get a feel for how Americans were thinking and living during that time.) However, the older I have become, the more I have come to love Miss Tinkham, Mrs. Rasmussen and Mrs. Feeley. In fact I would like to grow up to BE Mrs. Feeley and live in a junkyard called Noah's Ark (two of everything in there don't you know) and have a wall made of beer cans and planted with ice plants all around my yard. The three ladies are intrepid, fearless, strong and able, but most of all they are happy with what they have. They make very little seem bountiful and then share it with everyone they meet. Comments (9)Yes normally we would do the hour drive to the closest B&N big town and do some Christmas shopping but just weren't up for it this year. But want to support brick and mortar bookstores so shopped the same store online. Really trying to avoid Amazon . . . I did the "make your own comic" book last year, my grands love activity books but that's what hubs got them. As for kid's books, I bought my 10 yr. old female gd this book: "Vampire Island" by Adele Griffin. It is apparently part of a series. We'll see if she likes it. I got her a repro necklace which was apparently featured in "The Vampire Dairies" (I was just looking for a cool locket necklace). So that got me thinking along the vampire lines as gd likes goth a bit, just like her mom. But I didn't want to rush a ten year old into the "boyfriend girlfriend" vampire genre, she's only in 5th grade, so I picked "Vampire Island" because it is about a whole family of vampires. No reviews yet as to whether she is going to like it. One of the books that didn't come that hubs got for her is "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" by Kelly Barnhill, which is a Newbery Award winner. That sounds great too. For 8 yr. old female gd I got the dvd of Disney's "Thomasina the Cat" which was a favorite of mine at her age. I got the dvd quite a while ago, as the idea came to me early on in the Christmas shopping season. I kind of regret that I didn't get her the book, because it is just about at her reading level, she's advanced, and it got stellar reviews, all his books really. The author is Paul Gallico, and the original source book is "Thomasina the Cat Who Thought She Was a God." He also wrote several other children's books such as "The Snow Goose" which I remember also liking as a kid, a little older. I think I may get same gd some of his other works later . . ....See MoreFunkyart
