Need help with moving my electric stove

I would like to remodel my kitchen in the near future. However, I would like
to know if it is possible to move my electric stove to the exterior wall where
my refrigerator is currently located; to ventilate to the outside? I am
considering doing this prior to a complete remodel. It is not in the budget to
do a complete remodel because we just had a water management system installed
in our basement.

I looked inside the cabinet above the current stove location and do not see
a hole for duct work. Does this mean there is no duct work ventilating the
hood?

I would move my refrigerator where my stove is currently located and add a
side pantry. Just an FYI when it is time to remodel the kitchen i want to cut
an opening in the wall between the kitchen and dining room. l

Any Ideas, suggestions and an estimate on cost to move the electric stove
would be appreciated.

This is the window where the sink is located. The exterior wall to the right is the wall where the refrigerator is located.

Welcome to Kitchens, 5star. I did something similar a few years ago--I moved the fridge over, then put the range where the fridge had been, for venting purposes.

I doesn't look as if you have enough room for the range and adjacent counterspace where the fridge is currently located. In addition, that looks like a traffic path from the dining room. It also changes your prep area to the counter above the DW. I couldn't move my DW, and so that is where I prep, too, but the traffic issue and lack of landing space is more of a concern. If the fridge is 36" and the range is 30", will that leave 6" on the left side, with the range against the DW on the right side?

Can you vent through the roof? Can you post a measured overhead layout of the kitchen? Thank you.

Thanks so much for responding.

I know the kitchen is about a 12x12. I should be able to vent through the roof; don't hold me to that.

I did get a really good idea and layout from missymoo12

Per missymoo12 advise. The wiring and all that is going on the outside exterior wall would not be a wise idea to move the stove where the Frig is. Therefore, missymoo12 came up with a sketch that I think would work out perfectly. I attached, the layout from missymoo12.

The temp has to be higher than the regular oven settings. If you have a self cleaning oven, that will get all that gunk off. My MIL had one they used for hunting camp that had that baked on stuff all over the outside as well as down the inside rim and most of the flat part of the pan. She was going to throw it out but I put it in my oven and turned that stuff to ash. If you don't have a self cleaning oven others here have posted about getting the coals in your grill hot and putting your pan in there to cook it off. I cana't personally attest to that method but that many KTers can't be wrong.. It's worth a try.

Yes, it is a 3-wire plug (all the 240v in this house - stove, hot water heater, clothes dryer, and wall A/C unit - is 3-wire). So you're telling me that in order to create a 120v circuit for the oven light, clock, etc., it uses one of the two 120v legs, plus the ground as its neutral? And that there is a break in that circuit along the ground/neutral line, so it's using the metal chassis of the stove as its ground/neutral in order to complete the circuit? The internal wiring of the stove with regard to the clock and oven light and what-not is way too involved for me. I'd rather just disable all those 120v features and do without them; I don't ever use them anyhow. How do I go about doing that? I just want the simplest, fastest, easiest way to get my stove to quit shocking me. Thanks.

Typically the coil elements are replaced when they burn out, which may take decades depending on use and design. Due to lack of perfect flatness between heating elements and pan bottom surfaces, heat is conducted, convected, a radiated from coil to pan. Radiation heat transfer is mostly in the infrared, where most metals and coatings tend toward being fairly spectrally black, so coating wear or aluminum pan deposits will have negligible effect.

Giavanna, I think your best best is to first settle on a look you're going for. Go through Houzz photos (do a search on Open concept living rooms) and create an ideabook of things you like. Do you like modern styles? Traditional styles? It looks like you have kids, so family friendly will likely be important. I think we need a bit more to go on before we can give you good advice.

If you really think you are going to do a remodel in the future, I might wait on moving the stove. You might change your mind on where to put it once you get a final design. I say this because I jumped head first into a remodel and will be having to redo things. Also, if your cabinets are in good shape, you might consider painting them. I think a lot of people have done this and gotten amazing results.

Thank you for your opinion and advise. I really wanted to rearrange my appliances because I would actually gain more storage space. If I move my refrigerator I install a full length pantry or mid length pantry with a cabinet below. If I move the refrigerator where my stove is now I could install a full length cabinet and place my broom, mop and etc inside.

When I do remodel my kitchen I want white cabinets with brown and white and/or cream countertops.

I think my cabinets are too old and ugly. Would you recommend that I paint my cabinets first? If I do paint my cabinets how would I spruce them up and make them look more current? What type of paint, brush and etc would you suggest I use?

Is it a better idea to rearrange the appliances or keep them the way they are. Look forward to your advice and opinion.

I will also forward some pictures of how I would like to remodel my kitchen

Great inspirations pics--I love white kitchens, so I'm all for the painting. :)

If I understand the sketch you posted, missymoo suggested moving the range to the area (in the first pic) where the small appliances are on the counter, and venting to the left to the exterior wall? I think that's a great idea, if there is sufficient landing space, and it doesn't create a pinch-point between the fridge and the cabinet that will be on the right side of the range. You might tape it off in your kitchen and measure just to make sure. Good luck!

Thanks for your insight!! I love the suggestion as well. I am going to consider the painting, but I think I will get an estimate on the electric outlet and venting; the cabinets I want for their new locations before I try the painting . Again, thanks
