It's difficult to say without a pic. I have a walkway coming off a wide, long area that leads to a circular driveway but the entry is wide enough that it leave 3'+ wide beds on each side for planting. Leaving such a small space of 1.5x2' won't be usable for anything except rock...and they'll just be debris collectors. If you have brick on your home, consider having the edges of the walkway that leads to the house done in brick, and maybe even the seams. Will there be any columns holding exterior lighting along this walk?

Thanks for the advice on the pressure treated wood, and on making sure the foundation is on solid ground. Very helpful, though I'm sure that our subcontractor would have informed us of this :) I'm just gathering as much information as I can to present my husband with when I talk to him about stair ideas. Do you think that wood stairs are the best option? Will it look nice? Is it more economical than concrete? More opinions greatly appreciated!!!!

The long list of Class Actions against trex,some still going on, as well as thousands of very unhappy Customers are easy to find.This " documentation " is all over the web. Its a given trex has been a big seller.Reason being they advertised a lot back then using decks that did not exist.They no longer can say" No Maintaince " after being forced to quit by the Law. Small wonder their customers did not keep up with maintanice that wasent required by their adverstising. A big differance between trex and other soft composites like Moisture Shield is the cooling down process. T hits the boards with water, the material is on the truck in 15 min, Moisture Shield cools down their product for 7 hours naturaly. This goes a long way explaining the trex mold coming from inside the product.No amount of cleaning will stop it. Its also a given the adverage Customer is buying manmade so they dont have to do any or very little maintance. There is at least as much work keeping manmade clean and bright as there is keeping finish on a wood deck.It is possible to use outdoor finish on composite with good results far as keeping maintaince down but of course including this fact in the Co info would blow the whole idea of manmade. So if it's 3 feet of rise from driveway to doorstep, you'll need a 36 foot long ramp plus landings as you can only rise 30" at a run. Looks closer to 4 feet to me, so with the required landings, you could be looking at close to 60 feet of ramp. My third post was to agree with RES2 that the ADA is not required in most residential situations. No where on this thread have I said that ADA standards are required for single family residences. Not a single place. I have not engaged in any "misinformation". I stand by my position that ADA standards are good residential building practice. If you can make an argument that I'm wrong, please do so, however, you may not imply I've said things I have not.
