Comments (73)Also a newbie here. I have been at my property here in northeast Ohio for 3 years this summer and have extremely hard clay. I don't know they type, but it will break your back if you try to double dig it. I started out doing the dig a hole amend and plant (bath tub) routine the first year and haven't had much success, obviously. What I have been doing, last year and currently, is digging at least a shovel and a half deep and removing the hard thick rock/clay casting from my shovel blade. I leave the top 6 inches or so that is darker, however will still mold into whatever shape your heart desires. I have been throwing the rock hard clay in the back yard near the woods and will grade it out later while enhancing it with leaf mold from my yard. To the remaining soil I add several bags of cow manure and peat moss. I then work that in with a small garden tiller. Just bought a honda fg1100 and turn about 8-10 inches of the soil together. I keep doing this until the soil becomes really dark and I can see some of the clay forming small little round balls. I also take some in my hand and squeeze it to see if it stays formed or falls apart. I may have to wait a few days and come back to add a few bags more. I just bought a bag of pelleted gypsum and will be giving that a try this week with the method I described. I don't know how this is going to work in the long run. It could end up reverting back to the sculpture-like density clay it was when I started, but I am at least going to give it my best....See MoreSS Support - Mon. Aug. 30 thru Sun. Sept. 5th
Comments (42)Hi goils! Gosh--how great to see all of the posts!!! :):) Tikanas-- great questions! It's been a looong time since we've done this, so here goes: 1) My interests/hobbies are: reading, HERE, junk rooting, auctions (whodathunk??), crossstitch, and I love my hairy 24 pound cat! :) 2) Well, I am an accountant by degree, but I have recently had the good forture to become a fulltime auctioneer, which I just love! 3) No kids, unless you count the hairball and hubby! LOL! 4) I am 41, and feel like 17 most days! :):):) I've been posting here since late '98, and these are the greatest ladies! I've had the pleasure to meet BJ, KYSusieQ and Zig, and they are all just as lovelt in person as they are here. :) And I just bought an old battered copy of the 5 Little Peppers several weeks ago--and sat down and read it--talk about memories! :) Lynn--((((hugs))) and treats to Simon--my 24 pounder wasn't quite that big at a year, so your purrball is going toi be huge-- :):) Things have gotten interesting here--I've told you all about my first auction that is coming up on 9/12--well the %@#$%!! that has the real estate option is acting like a $%@#%!! and is threating to sue my @ss. I'm not sure just exactly why, since I am just selling the personal property of the lady's. I suspect he knows he has a shadey deal, and now, he is threating the old lady as well. I'd like to...well.... I don't know what to do--Raeanne--any ideas? Gotta go--tomorrow's a long day--we're working a flea market over the weekend and Monday, so it will be a busy one for me! And where is Amy and Patti??? John??? Hugs, Maddie...See Morecolors gone wild!
Comments (34)Florantha, I saw some of your 180fx pictures on other threads - absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for so much for sharing. Trying to fit seating into my plan, I ended up with a countertop/table about 7x2 against a wall. I talked to my builder about it this past summer, but there's no way to support the weight of stone there. So it needs a laminate that blends. Plus I was envying the swirly stone patterns. And whaddayaknow - 180fx! Above is the blue storm. I ordered samples of blue storm, golden mascarello, and yellow river. The antique looks just a little pale/cool for my blend, at least online. I can't wait to see the samples. And I "dropped in" to a Firuze tile store. OMG - overwhelming possibilities. They had the nu travertine walnut from arizona tile, but it doesn't look quite right for me. The grey veining is more of a shadow than a color to pick out. But I'm sure I can find something in there. I learned after many discussions that I really can leave some things until later in the design process. Your walls sound beautiful. It's smart to keep the rich color on the walls. And of course, the 180fx is stunning. Gotta love it....See MoreLogan L. Johnson
