Comments (19)If Otis is planning on buying ready made panels they would have to be long enough to go up on top of the board and still touch the floor. (They would be rod pocket panels). I wouldn't even go to the trouble of picking out the stitch lines for the rod pocket, but just gather the panels by hand and staple on top of the board. (As long as there isn't a 2 story balcony that you can look down on top of the boards - you don't have to be terribly picky about how the top looks.) This is just an easy suggestion for this window configuration. I do think that 2 panels will be needed for a nice full drapery on each window. You can use iron on tape or pins to keep the drapes together and then hide that join in the folds when you dress it out. I know how to sew and of course I would do them in a more professional manner. It just depends on a person's budget as to whether they can afford custom window treatments or if they need to make them or do something creative with ready mades! You can also use pinch pleat panels on a board and hang the drapery pins from screw eyes inserted on the 3/4" front lip of the board. I have drapes made like this in my own home. I've never posted a photo on this site but I will try to take a photo tomorrow and post it....See MoreDrapes or Blinds on Large French Doors/Windows
Comments (2)I think your blinds look excellent. I love curtain panels but I don't see the clearance space around the doors and windows for a rod and properly sized panels. Perhaps you could consider some more lamps for the space. I see that you are using the overhead light which should really be a light of the last resort....See MoreRoman blinds outside mount? Comments (1)Window #2 would look fabulous (bed too) with drapes hung higher and wider to create a dramatic fabric wall. Great opportunity to add color or pattern to room and hide a less than stellar view. I would then use drapes on the other windows instead of the Roman shades....See MoreBlackout blinds/shade/drapes or... - help me decide
Comments (3)I spy a cute baby! As a toddler mom I definitely agree that blacking out more light is likely to result in your little one (and all of you) getting more sleep. On my own windows (which are a more typical setup) I've found a combination of blackout blinds plus blackout curtains gives the best results -- neither gets the whole job done, but in combination I can get the room super dark. I'm not sure you'll be able to get blinds or curtains to cover all of this, but if you cover as much as you can with each it should be a big improvement. Here's what I think I'd do: -Get three sets of exterior mount blackout blinds (I like the cellular kind, but for a very affordable option you might look at the Ikea Fridans) and mount them above each transom; buy them long enough that they can pull down to cover both the transom and windows below. This means for both the right and the left, when they're pulled down they'd cover some wall and some window. For the one on the right you'd have to stop the shade at the edge of the closet. -Mount a curtain rod above the blinds (making sure it projects far enough not to interfere with the exterior mound blinds) running the full length of the wall and put blackout curtains on it -For that little piece of window on top of the closet, I'd sit something in front of it (nice looking box?) to block the light....See MoreRelated Professionals
