Flowers are usually most welcome. Or a bottle or two of wine?

I'll be going to my sister's house and was going to send flowers but decided instead to buy her a large rosemary plant that's been trimmed and shaped to look like a christmas tree. Hope she likes it!

I saw a small rosemary tree at the florist's as well and even thought about that. Didn't check the price. I see them alot in stores around Christmas, where they are much less in price than the florist shop I'm sure.

Thanks, Glenda! My sister is a cooking phenom and she loves to decorate for xmas, so I figured I can't go wrong with a rosemary tree. The local grocery has a florist shop that advertised them for $17 and there were only two left when I got there! It sure smells good! :)

PS: it's got a cute burlap sack around the pot and stands 24" high. Perfect size!

Speaking of rosemary, I bought one this week and was shocked when I removed the hang tag and it said that it was not for human consumption. Have you ever heard of this. I was disappointed.

That's pretty cool, the flower turkey! I usually bring a bottle of wine if I know my hosts drink wine -- otherwise flowers or a plant.

acdc, that's horrible! I had that happen with something once so I remembered to check for a tag to make certain mine was for culinary use!

Saw a beautiful arrangement made from live herbs at the grocery store. At $18 it would have made a wonderful hostess gift. Didn't buy it though, because I'm hosting!

Schoolhouse, next time you need a darling little vase for either fresh flowers or dried seed heads and plant material.....go RUSTIC!

There's not much cuter than a plain mason jar, decorated with several strands of jute twine or raffia tied in a bow or threaded with beads or buttons. A little spring of fresh greenery can be tucked into the twine....holly, a bit of fir, variegated pittosporum, etc.

Use clean water if used for fresh flowers and an inch or so of white sand or decorative pebbles if making a dried arrangement.

No spray paint or glitter for these rustic vases. They are always so cute. I love the dried seed heads, pods, everlastings, and twigs at this time of year.
