round up becomes inert on teh soil it only kills green it hits.. the trick to spraying is VERY LOW PRESSURE... practice with a tank sprayer ... adjusting the tip... and handle pressure..as well as water pressure.. until it sprays out big drops ..NOT A FINE MIST.. and big drops fall to the ground .. not drift in the wind.. practice for an hour in the driveway.. until you can see and learn how to spray properly ... and the last trick.. is to spray only as long as you have HIGH CONCENTRATION ...meaning when you get tired.. you make mistakes.. shoot for a 75% kill.. and come back in a week.. and touch up the space ... the stuff will last quite a while in the tank.. presuming you dont have any idiot kids who will mess with it..mine know better.. though they are still idiots .. lol ... ken

Three down, one to go......I asked for help from a local gardening group and was able to get all but one of my "unknown" weeds identified. Number #2 has been sucessfully identfied as GARLIC MUSTARD Number #3 is PRICKLY LETTUCE (thanks jean001) Number #4 isnt even a weed....its a BLACK LOCUST TREE

I still think you should wait 'n' be sure... Healthy, hardy roses are hard to grow so close to the ocean and our humidity and winters. I'd want to be certain before destroying a healthy rose. No rose is a threat to the environment just by blooming --- the hips/seeds you want to avoid if it's the multiflora variety, so you have months to deal with the plant if necessary. Keep in mind that there are desirable roses which have a similar appearance and growth habit.... My 2¢.

Thank you, Donna. I looked it up. Leaves really look like what I have. But root system... mine is like a great system underneath the surface. Main root is as thick as man's thumb, going pretty deep down. And these guys just hold on that main root in groups... you pull out one and there are more ready to come from the same spot. And it's hair roots are so invasive, they are right there where I have newly planted roses and such... and it's all in packed hard clay! Maybe I need to let it grow a little bit to check what this thing is doing actually...
