Prairie Sunrise? Honeysweet? Any other Buck roses good for pots?
Comments (14)So that looks like an unconditional "Yes" from alameda for both Prairies Sunrise and Honeysweet, and a "maybe yes" from Michaelg? Thanks for the comments. I asked about these 2 because they're among the shorter Buck roses. Supposedly about 3' tall and not too wide. When I talk about potted roses, I mean 18 to 20" diameter; smaller for some of the minis. 20" is about my limit, because I DO want to be able to move them myself when I need to. Some Bucks I'd love to have but that I think would eventually get a bit too big (at least too wide) include Quietness, Hawkeye Belle, Distant Drums, and Paloma Blanca....See MoreDo you grow Prairie Sunset??
Comments (6)I like Prairie Sunset, too - but I'm glad to hear from Kaye that mine is not the only one that is not a great rebloomer. Mine, too, is a bit shaded by other taller roses so perhaps it warrants a more open area (note to self for next spring's 'roses to move' list!) Mine does get blackspot if not sprayed. Prairie Sunrise is a totally different rose in appearance - and one you should not be without. IMO, it is one of Dr. Buck's best. AC...See MoreBuck's 'Prairie Harvest'
Comments (11)How did this old thread reappear? I should come back here once in a while, yes? Yes, that is the usual color: a nice, icy, yellow. Its parent is 'Sunsprite' the source, no doubt of the good scent. I'll also add that my trio grows in a mostly shady spot. They didn't start out that way, but the nearby greedy pines overtook them years ago. Carla, Jean enabled me into 'Prairie Sunrise.' I finefinefine rose. Alas, a victim to a cruel winter. It died. Comments (6)Here is what Hummingbird Hill (central TX nursery) said: "shrub 4'x5', fragrant, very disease resistant- rarely needs spraying. This past spring this rose had so many flowers on it it was a mass of bright pink. It blooms throughout the summer and is rarely without a flower, but the spring show hasn't been repeated like that. I'm looking forward to seeing this girl this coming spring. She was simply amazing." Link below is a slide show from Hummingbird Hill showing Prairie Breeze to be an AMAZING shrub, rounded and tidy looking, with a magnificent spring flush. http://hummingbirdhilltexas.com/tinc?key=RCl81nhf&fs_settings=1,32,1,5,800,740...See MorePoorbutroserich Susan Nashville
