Need Help Landscaping a very small yard
Comments (43)Violet you've been so helpful to me on this thread! Pictures help me so much to envision things! I've been following this because I too have a hot, tiny yard. Crekha, I think Violet is on to something by extending the patio beyond the roof. Envisioning two spaces instead of three separate ones. So the brick from the patio melds with the path along the garden and out. That would make it look larger simply because it wasn't chopped up into three separate surfaces. Also loved the idea of a low fence with a gate to add two separate "rooms." And the use of the big pots with big plants instead of the little ones. Put your little pots on an outdoor etagier....See MoreThoughts on houseplan
Comments (38)Thank you for your input Mrs Pete, it's good to hear different views. Still planning to stick with this one and make modifications. I just don't see how starting totally from scratch would be more cost effective than working with a plan we like. I'm not quick to jump to "Get thee to an architect", but in this case you're looking at major changes. If you were looking at a stock plan and were saying, "Let's make this door into a window, remove this tray ceiling, and open the office door towards the foyer instead of the great room", I'd say you were on the right track. You'd be looking at small things that wouldn't raise the price of your stock plan significantly. However, you're looking at big alterations, which will change the roofline, require different trusses, and will require new engineering. When you're making those major changes, you're already into the cost of an architect....See MoreRetractable Screen for a VERY LARGE opening
Comments (4)I should have put phantom on my list- while their website and brochure say they make horizontal screens up to 177" no one in my area will do it. They insist on two screens. Same thing with ZigZag. Thank you for your input though! @bsds71 Its currently all just framed out right now, so I'm not sure how helpful that would be... its a multislide eurowall door. 4 pannels....See MoreAir travel......
Comments (14)chi, I pretty rarely fly these days. It's almost exclusively for vacation (I have flown when moving homes, and for business, but these days, I am settled with both of those). How is airplane pollution better/worse than bus, train, or car pollution? I would think the fraction of the time it takes to get from point A to B would make it at least comparable, if not better. Not trying to be contrary, just curious. I can't see that being an issue. Though, you are right. I have a work acquaintance who said after COVID, air travel was being utilized by "bus people", more often. And, I noticed, the next couple of times I flew, yep: the class of people has absolutely changed. What I really dislike is how many are creating disturbances on flights. I can't say that I ever remember something like that, much less at the level it occurs now. I guess that's due to people recording it these days? But I will say the civility is gone, more than ever....See MoreRelated Professionals
