Front Door and Garage Door Color

My Front door and garage door are white and I think I need a better color. The shutter as you can see in the photo are black and I think the door and the shutter should be the same color, but I am not sure black is right. One thought was to paint the front door and shutters red as it would go better with the brick or paint the door the brown trim color. For the garage I was thinking of trying to match the Siding color. Not sure if the trim around the garage should be the brown trim color or the garage door color. Any thoughts appreciated.

The shutters read brown on my monitor, but it could be the light in the photo, which I think it probably really oranging the brick, too? If you wanted to leave the shutters as is, I might try a teal or turquoise door, but I happen to love that color with brick. I picked this photo when I thought your shutters were brown.

I found this of the garage doors painted the same color as the siding (although different color than yours) and like how it looks with no trim. I also think this is a great color with the brick, but probably not with your siding (unless you'll be painting that, too). I like the darker trim color with it all. This is from an older GW thread, so I hope the OP doesn't mind

dear rwbil, I know you did not ask but I would just lose those shutters entirely. They are kind of ridiculous since if they were even useful they would not cover the windows at all. So get rid of them, and paint the trim, the door, and the garage doors whatever color makes you happy to come home. That's a nice house :)

I fear it might have too much green in it for your red roof and your orange looking stone. It may make the roof look even redder because green is the complement of red.

I also love the apple green, as well as the coral. Since the door will be in shadow on the porch and since it looks like most of it is window rather than the surface you'll paint, I'd go bright! Test it out with a few of your top choices painted on wallboard and propped on the porch; take a look at different times of day. Lovely home and I think you can have some fun with the door color, incorporating it into plants and planters that lead the eye to your front door. Lovely home! The blue is stunning. (And I like cp's idea to paint the gables.)

I bought a house that had been advertised as a "white Victorian". Actually., it was an early Colonial Revival and from a watercolor rendering I knew it had originally been a khaki color with dark green shutters and a red cedar shingled roof. The white was lifeless so I painted it a soft yellow. So many people rang my doorbell to ask the name of the color that I made some cards and kept them on a table near the door. The closest one is 5 doors away and still yellow. I recently painted it the original color. I wish I could afford the shutters.

Thanks for responding ro my post! The front door color will be iron ore (dark grey with brown undertone) and the garage doors will be mocha brown with a grey undertone. So the interior color could be white or iron ore. It's hard to see the colors inside. The walls and foyer floor have grey undertones.

Paint the garage the same color as the siding and then do the door a beautiful blue. You could do the shutters in the same color too. That way the door will stand out more.

I don't think we are seeing the actual color of your brick in the photo because of the light orientation. Do you have a more representative picture?

I second losing the shutters altogether. Then paint the window trim an ivory color, as well as the siding. The brown looks so drab, at least in those pics. Garage same color as siding. A wonderful front door color is BM Wythe Blue.

I need to take better pictures. I have these picture where you can see the shutter are black. the bottom pictures is more accurate on the true color.

I would paint your garage doors the same darker brown color that you have on the fascia and posts holding up the roof over your front patio/porch. Then choose a fun color for your front door. I would keep the door color on the lighter side, so it will pop out from the dark shaded area that it is in.

I would probably do the garage doors a tad darker than your siding, but not as dark as the dark trim- I would paint the trim the same color as you paint the doors... I would leave the shutters black or paint them the trim color and maybe paint the front door a fun color- a shade of turquoise could look nice, or a green or maybe even a reddish purple depending on what your taste is... what colors do you like and do you want your front door to stand out with color?

I would pick a fun pop of color for the door. But I think until you deal with the landscaping the house is still going to look drab. I am going to guess you are in California with the palms and Eucs and the dead lawn (thanks for not watering by the way) I would ask about some drought friendly plants and changing the yard to draw attention to the house and front door. Now is the time to plant in SoCal before the rains. I don't think the well spaced palms do anything for the house or the Queen (King?) palm either. Coming up with a plan for the yard should lead the color you pick for the door.
