Bonus room help

What can we do with this room? We don't want a media room. Room measures 12 feet wide by 15 feet long. The end of the room where I took the picture from is our dining room with dining room table. Please any suggestions.

Looks lik you could use some storage and a playroom area. Consider builtins on the left (where your cabinet is, a larger rug perhaps a chandelier and some children's size furniture.

You are pretty far along in scheduling to not have an actual game plan here. Why have you scheduled a contractor without having a final layout from your architect? How could a contractor even give you a bid based on anything? This is not going to be cheap! And you want to pop the roof or add big dormers to try to get more floor space? Not gonna happen without more planning and at least a 100K+ budget. Your ideas do not fit the existing architecture. The whole structure would need to have the second floor removed and rebuilt.

Move the TV to the clock wall and flank it with a pair of floor lamps. Use blackout roman shades at the windows for watching daytime TV. Placement of seating will depend on TV size. Sofa facing TV, coffee table 12-18" from it and two swivel chairs at each end of the coffee table. Leave a slim walk path behind the sofa. Art where you have TV now and on the wall between the windows.

The sitting areas do look nice but for a modern family with a 2 year old little boy are they really functional. We would like to get some use out of the room and I'm not convinced that a formal sitting area would provide that usage.

The Hirsch photo was simply for reference on incorporating your cabinet with the 4-chair idea. Casual chairs work here too; even a mix of chairs if you don't want to purchase all new matching ones. Center the cabinet so TV can be mounted between the windows exactly opposite it. I'd use swivel chairs that can turn to watch TV. And do light the cabinet, style it with 1/3 books, 1/3 large decor or collections, and 1/3 open space.
