Looking for specific antique rose
Comments (9)Paul, last I knew, is also writing for Fine Gardening. His forum hasn't been terribly active lately, but that's not all that unusual for this time of year. Another rose expert, Hannes, might also respond. And I second Helpmefind.com. Although when I looked up Westerland, most of the pix didn't match yours. Comments (5)Tina, Don't know a lot about roses, but have dealt with blackspot. The house I moved into 5 yrs ago had a rosebush in front, and there are not gutters on front of house. It had blackspot, and the beetles ate the leaves until there was nothing left. I tried a few organic methods for getting rid of blackspot, and nothing worked- the site was the main factor. However, neighbor had blackspot on same kind of rosebush, and it was out in the open yard. I finally pulled up the rosebush, sad, but it was a losing battle and an eyesore. Thought I'd plant something in its place, something that liked moisture. I think I put black plastic on soil to try to "kill" any spores. Anyway, planted a spicebush there last fall. This year it has some kind of dx, probably fungal. Yeah, it could be the location. I wouldn't put another rose plant where that one was if I were you, but if you love roses there is a forum on here and maybe they can help you out. One day, when I own my own home, it will have gutters on the front and I will find a rose not susceptible to blackspot...... Yeah, in our humidity fungal dx is an issue, at least it's been for me. Best of luck. Gretchen...See MoreHow can I find specific roses?
Comments (2)I hope you're successful in finding all the names you're looking for. I planned a grandchildren's rose bed a few years back, but was not able to complete it. I wish I had worked harder at it. Are you familiar with all the mail order nurseries? If you're not, here are a few besides High Country Roses, which Magda mentioned ..... Rogue Valley Roses, Antique Rose Emporium, Palatine, Hortico, Edmunds, Regan, Roses Unlimited, Heirloom, Northland Rosarium, Corn Hill and Freedom Gardens for custom propagation. There are many more. They all have online catalogs with search tabs. Also, Help Me Find is a site that might be helpful. Some roses have more than one name - one for European countries, another used in Australia and another used in the US. Help Me Find will help with that. If there is a name you can't find, something representative of that child might work, such as Ballerina, Life of the Party, etc. Good luck. I hope you find a beautiful rose for each name....See MoreNeed help finding a sectional made to fit specific dimensions.
Comments (13)Have you measured a specific depth and height that would be comfortable for your husband? It seems like Century and Benchmade do not customize depth. You really are only customizing the length of your sofa in 5" increments. However, if they have a depth that is already what your husband finds comfortable then it might be a good place to shop. Also, do you have thick fluffy removable back pillows on your current sofa? If so, you could have it reupholstered as a tight back and gain extra inches in depth. I did this with a vintage Baker sofa from the 80s. It is now deeper and sturdy as a tank....See Moresharon2079
