New Tractor
Comments (25)Cole: You are correct about making the raised bed prior. I have a raised bed maker and it works really well. I am going to make the plastic mulch layer to work with the bed maker. I will have to make two passes, but It will be well worth it. Here is my disk hiller. Here are the raised beds it makes. After looking at mulch layers, I made some plans and drew them out. Then I went to the internet and found this homemade mulch layer. It was almost the same as my idea. Then I saw this guys video pulling it, with a Kubota B7300, not much bigger than my tractor. I knew I found my plan. I am going to make it a little heavier, I have the channel iron and 2 inch tubing. Now I have to build the disc hiller clamps and wheel clamps. Then cut it all to size and weld away! I am going to make all the pieces adjustable left and right and up and down. I also plan on mounting the plastic up and have it pull down and under a roller. THe roller would be where the plastic is mounted on this one. It would level the top of the raised bed too. That is what I do when I do it by hand. Finally, I can take the ROPS off with 6 big bolts. Not sure if I want to do that yet to work in the high tunnels yet. Jay Here is a link that might be useful: Homemade mulch layer...See MoreMy 'New' Junk! LOL

Comments (19)We didn't have big birthdays either. But one stands out in my mind and still makes me tear up. I must have been 8 that year and my birthday gift was a new pair of school shoes. My mother picked out the most godawful blood red oxfords with argyle plaid laces. Man, those were ugly shoes. I wanted saddle oxfords like my older sisters had. My father's birthday was the day before mine so I never had my own cake. Every year mother made an angel food cake with white icing and that was the cake for both of us. I did get to pick the menu and it was always fried chicken. Sometimes I asked for fried chicken AND chicken and noodles. Now that meal would still make me forget I never had my own cake. Anyway, the year of the shoes, we were watching TV--a new novelty in our home. Back then we watched TV with all the lights off. Don't know if that was the norm, but that's what we did. I kept seeing those ugly shoes in the TV light and I just started crying. Very softly so nobody'd see me. But my dad did. He sat me on his lap and started telling me how neat me new shoes were. Well, I gave it my best try of acting happy about them. Then he got up, went out in the kitchen and was gone for a while. I was beginning to feel better about the shoes when he came in the living room with a bag from the drug store. He'd gone out, walked the 5 blocks downtown and to the only store open and bought me two new sets of paper dolls and a few other little things. I felt so guilty for being a baby about the shoes and somehow I just knew that was probably his lunch money for the week. It's not a happy memory, but that's how much daddy loved us. And that part is a happy memory....See MoreNew build, porch/front stairs. Stone, concrete or??
Comments (15)Folks, thanks so much. We already have multiple outdoor porches on other sides of the house, where the views are. Facing the front one only sees the street and other houses in the distance. The rear has a sweet view, so there are multiple patios, etc. on rear and side. Further, as much as a screen porch would be nice we're too far along now...would need an approved City plan change, hoa change, etc. But good ideas! I like the "mixed w/slatted wood" stairs picture...maybe we could do something along those lines. Virgil's really got it with the shape of the stairs; we could potentially color the concrete slightly (they have more integrated coloring agents now that don't change color as much)...ligher version of stucco siding color shown above....See MoreElmer J Fudd
