Comments (5)In order to get help, your property needs to be better understood than the above pictures allow. I suggest you line up with an axis that runs roughly through the center of the house and take a contiguous, slightly overlapping set of photos that pan across the property. I drew a sketch to help explain what I mean. Since I'm rough guessing and inaccurately drawing the layout, take it with a grain of salt and adjust for real life conditions. Since the patio is elevated, the camera needs to be high up. I suggest taking the pictures while standing on a step ladder or from the bed of a pickup truck. Try to take sharp, well lit photos....See MoreWould appreciate elevation suggestions
Comments (111)The columns are personal preference. I like interior architecture, and defining spaces without using walls. It is fairly common when you have a single structural column to pare it with a non structural one for balance, unless the single one is located where it seems natural. Yours looks like it is not at a corner of anything. I don't understand why you need it in that specific location. If it were moved about 4' towards the powder room it would be at the corner of the great room and start of the vault....See MoreWould appreciate critique/suggestions for home exterior
Comments (5)This is a typical plan factory design where all the goodies are put on the front façade, and nothing is considered on any of the other sides. For example, compare the front and rear elevations...it doesn't even look like the same house, does it? The front is overly decorated with four front-facing gables, plus other assorted roof forms. Windows and trim strongly contrast with the dark siding. It looks like someone dressed up to attend a masquerade ball. Yet, the back elevation looks like the poor step-sister who has to stay home and peel potatoes all day. The floor plan is organized around a diagonal stair and spaces. Diagonal spaces are a sure sign that the designer couldn't or didn't know how to properly design the project. Avoid any design which features diagonal rooms or circulation spaces...it's very amateurish. If you're going to use an architect, that's your "starting point". You don't need to spend your time looking at plans like this to find a "starting point". There are a lot of threads in the archives about what one can productively do when preparing to visit an architect. Search for them and you will find them very helpful. Good luck on your project....See Morejacqueline9CA
