wired vs wireless doorbell chimes. Ugly

I bought a new house this past august. It had a wireless door chime installed but it never worked. I replaced the batteries and the unit was shot. So after removing it I noticed there was some wiring behind the wireless system and traced it back to a tranformer. So for some reason the original homeowner replaced a hardwired chim with a wireless chime.

Anyway, I'm actually glad to see the hardworking because I think the wireless systems are just hideous looking. Especially the buttons. I had purchased a highly popular honeywell wireless unit for my old house but I hated that thing with a passion. The button looked so stupid and classless. There was also about a 1 second lag from hitting the button until hearing the chime. Amazon customers liked it and rated it number one but I hated the thing.

Wired systems seem to be few and far between at this point. Anyone know of a reasonably priced system that has good sound and looks nice? I've seen a lot of really cool led lighted wired buttons that Wil look great outside. Just haven't found a decent chime that's not hundred of dollars.

I have an iChime with Spore led doorbells. The iChime is plenty loud, allows you to select different sounds for the main door and an easy ding dong for the back door. I got mine from the Amazon warehouse. It replaced an old nutone door chime.

Have you considered a door knocker? The knock penetrates all including the TV, the vacuum cleaner and the music if it's cranked up.

I would normally say that the search feature could be your best friend, but the way ivillage has fungled everything up, it's pretty much useless now. We received a a two doorbell battery run kit as a gift. We have a (900 sq ft) house shaped like a boxcar, with doors at each end. The kit had range problem, the receiver had to be placed in the center of the house. Sometimes the front doorbell just didn't ring, and it is closest to the receiver. Eventually it stopped working. One day I saw the receiver on the living room wall was caked on the bottom with green corrosion salts from the battery. The salts went onto the wall. We haven't removed it yet, so I can't tell you the brand name, but it was from a big box store. There aren't many choices, and they are all from China, land of the lousy electronics. I am looking for this as well. I don't want a plastic doorbell button that requires a battery. I live in Arizona and nothing plastic or with a battery will last here. I want to use a wireless system inside the house so I can plug in several receivers. I want the button transmitter to be able to use the existing wiring so it does not require a battery to work. I have seen a few youtube videos where people have connected the wires from the outside wall into the button transmitter and by passing the need for a battery. I can't find a wireless system with a button that has the option to wire it.

Might look for a Z-Wave technology doorbell. Then you can do all kinds of things.. like have your cell phone ring when someone rings your doorbell or suddenly your tv shows video, showing the persons face and you can tell them to go away or let them in with your tv remote control. Z-wave,, doing all kinds of things now.

I have a very simple, white wireless doorbell. I like it because I can unplug the receiver from the interior electrical outlet when I don't want my dog to be set off by the sound of the doorbell (when friends and family are coming).
