Sowed a few more today....
Comments (14)Hee hee. this is why I'm just going for a ton of things -- if I lose some, oh well, no big deal. What I've done with some of them is prepped the container, sown the seeds, but have NOT watered them yet. So they are still "stalled". If you're worried about a warm spell, you could do something like this and just not water & not set the container where it can get rained into. Or just go for it, and know that some seeds will sprout and die...and the late sprouters in the same container might make up for them, just like they'd do in the wild. Last year I waited for the same reasons you mention. (still lost things to dry spells) This year I have to take advantage of the time off work over the holidays. Whenever you start sowing, don't think too hard about which things to sow first. Just sow until they're all sown! You can find homes for them later -- and if some don't make it, you'll still have enough for your garden....See MoreA Few more today
Comments (7)I think FV is looking great. Was that one taken in the PM too? Not too many dl's can stand up to these scorching temps we here in the south are having right now. I know mine are fading really bad. That's one reason I'm out in the garden at daylight each morning. Also, it's the coolest time of day so I have to get whatever garden chores I need to do, done before 10 AM. Too hot any later than that. You stay cool during this heat wave now, and don't overdo it out there. Jan...See MoreWell, a few more today
Comments (12)Renee, what are you planting Chasing Rainbows near? The pictures you paint with your flowers are always so beautiful! Rena, that Stinker is front and center. I planted a red flag on it today. It is going! Thanks Ann. I really like the bloom, but the bud is ugly. A dirty looking tan. Right now I plan to leave it for another year or so...but I really don't like the buds. It is totally off topic, but this is my favorite time of year for the roses. The temp and the humidity are perfect for this delicious rose scent to waft to you every time you get near the roses. It is intoxicating! some spring flush beginning: (that white background is snowball bushes) I do have one more, I'm going to post here. Now to tell you what a duh syndrome I'm having, I went through so many gyrations to identify this rose. Kept going over all my iris charts and looking up names from it. Finally realized I had a label right next to it. These labels are 1.5"X3.5" on a wire post about 16" high. Duh! Jamaican Dream: kay...See MoreA few more today
Comments (6)bgrose; Thank you. Judy.Yes,I was almost in tears too, over Bonica.I had to cut a cane out of it that was broked,so it won't be a nice round ball looking again.I love this rose, too. Brandy. This is the 2nd year mine is in a basket.I cut it way back in Feburary as it had some 4 ft canes on it,and I didn't want them that long.It looked scraggly to me,but when I cut them long canes off, then it made a n ice round even plant.I suspect by fall I will have to find some thing bigger to put it in,or take it out and knock some dirt off and put fresh soil in it,and maybe trim the roots slittle too.I seen one today planted along a fence and it looked scraggly and was growing like a rambler,,every which way.I like my basket better. Les, you are right at least it wasn't the deer that ate it to the ground, like what happened last year about this time. I am sure it will get more blooms(if the deer stays away) but I had to cut a broken cane out of it,so won't be shaped as pretty as it was. Have had some other bad luck with my roses in the back yard.I had planted 3 new plants over the last few weeks, and the neighbors dog came and dug them up 4 days in a row,,I expect after the bonemeal I put in the bottom of the hole.Well,I had it out witht he old lady that owns the dog and told her we have a leash law here and the law is for every one, which she already knew, but said no one told her about it.I know animal control has talked to her on 3 different occasions about it and she still pays no attention. But last night some thing else was digging at some other roses back there. My Mon Cherie had a hold dug out all the way to the roots, good sized hole, too, about 5 inch in diameter, and 2 other roses had a hole dug to the roots, and I had to get soil put back around them, then sprinkled red pepper around them, hoping to stop the digging.I really think it was a armadilla last night done it.My Mon Cherie is wilted today.I was gone all day with a friend and seen it when I got back.I will put some root stimulator on it tomorrow, and hopefully it will perk back up.Its just loaded with buds. Snowheather.Thank you also for your very kind comments. Jean...See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
