I was going to try keeping a journal similiar but found it to time consuming although I'm sure it would be helpful for further refernce. Is it working for you? G_M

Most likly suspect would be defective solder connections on the main circuit board. This is a common problem in "all electronic equipment", more so in equipment that generates a fair amount of heat. The expansion/contraction of the circuit board will eventually cause microscopic cracks in the solder, around the component lead. This effectivly takes some parts out of the circuit. A large resistor, with high current, will even crystalize the solder, in some cases. When the solder is crystalized, its resistance increases, causing the voltage to drop. This problem will increase, due to EPA ruling that "lead" based solder will no longer be allowed. There are several "no lead solders" available, but their connection properties have not been tested over time. Eventually a good lead free solder will be developed, but untill that time, the customer is the "guinea pig". pw

Dear bob brown:Thank you for responding so quickly. No, unfortunately, we do not have a heat pump, just the electric furnace with the heat strips. The problem: We recently had our electrical usage jump to almost three times of what is normally is/was. A heating/AC technician from our maintenance ins. co. told us, that the electrical heating furnace [which we thought might not work properly] is working fine but that, whoever put the BRAEBURN MODEL 3000 thermostat in, wired it wrongly, i.e. he wired it for one stage so that the electric consumption is always on too high because it has to run constantly, not in the economical way of using only one stage and only when necessary two stages. Please forgive me if I talk too 'greenish' :-) But that's how I understood this mechanic. From my research I concluded that that means, we would need a '2-stage' thermostat!? When I checked the Braeburn web site, I learned that the 3000 model is apparently only a single stage function. Thus my question: Would it be advisable for us to have a 2-stage thermostat installed? As it is now, I am scared that we will not be able to pay these terribly high electricity bills we had for the past two months anymore. Thanks again for your information on the builtin sequencer. I live in WA & it would have been helpful to list what classes of roses do well in different areas of the state eg Coastal, High Desert etc. Good info on the own-root vs grafted roses though. Jane
