The seeds need stratification, so you will need to put them on moist vermiculite or perlite, and then put in a ziplog bag and store in the refrigerator for about a month. After a month, take them out and start them either indoor or outdoor. I remember starting mine around March, and I got flowers that same year. Now it is a little late. I am not sure if they will bloom this year; but if they don't, they will come back and be ready for next year. I put some in a jar with damp vermiculite and stored it in the fridge for about a month. Then I put the seeds in a tofu box with vermiculite, and I left it in a room indoor. And I got some seedlings in April: Since that was my first time, I thought I would do some experiment with different methods, so I also put some like this in a milk container: And I covered it and left it in my unheated garage. I got good germination this way too. But I started in March. Now your garage is probably too warm. And the result that year:

You might want to put panty hose over that pod. As it ripens, it will take a dive. The panty hose will help keep the seeds from getting lost. As for starting them, may I suggest that you use a shallow tray filled with soil. Once the seeds are planted, water real good and set it in a bigger, deeper tray or pan. Irma StPete, I'm going to agree with both Island Pete and Bodiggly. I think each tuber only blooms once per season...at least that's been my experience. So the way around this is to plant the tubers thickly so at least one of your tubers will be blooming at any give time. Usually most of the summer I will have 1 to 4 flowers, and at least a couple will set seeds. I soak the seeds and dump them back on top of the tubers, too...to help them keep multiplying! Mine are in full sun in a hanging basket, no fertilizer, etc. Mostly just rain water or a sprinkle with the hose when it's been very dry.

I goofed. After checking the site so kindly pointed out to me by EGO45, I read that the plant should be set no more than an inch below groundlevel. I KNOW I planted mine deeper than that, so I carefully dug it up. Amazingly, the rhizome I was convinced I had morphed into a bulb. It's about as big as a Filbert nut and slightly flattened on top. A half dozen, thick cream-colored roots extend from its base about three inches. I'd say I'm SURE it's not a corm, but my track record stinks.
