jama - Off hand I can't say how much difference there is between my under induction oven and range to the floor, but here are the measurements of my oven under the induction: - the top of the oven door is 7 3/4" below the countertop - the oven door is 23" high - the bottom of the door is 5 7/8" from the floor I took a photo of the bottom so you can see that there is still cabinet trim under the door and the full amount of toekick space as the rest of the cabinets. The cooktop and oven were installed by a Miele installer so I'm assuming everything is up to par. The first photo gives you a view of the induction above the oven. Hope that helps!!! But, from what others say, maybe you won't have a long wait for an Electrolux after all if you decide to go that route. Best wishes in whatever you decide. And as for your question why do I like the Miele better? - It seems to do an overall nicer job, bakes more evenly, baked goods have a nicer appearance, etc. I used to have a basic oven in my old kitchen and didn't know there was such a difference between different brands. The only reason I bought the Miele oven was because I needed the same brand under the induction. The price was not something I was happy about, and I even got a floor model that was marked down more than $1,000, but now that I see how well it works, I find myself wishing I would have sprung for both Miele ovens.

dueceluxe I'm not sure if you ever got an answer to your question, but I'm going to chime in because in 2008 I was in the same boat. We have a 48" BlueStar in a 12' island, with a prep sink located about 48" away, which is where I spend my prep time. Frankly I wish people would focus on answering the direct questions, vs. lecturing about what percentage of prep/cook/cleanup time people "should" be spending in their kitchens, or in which direction they should be facing when doing so. The OP stated they were looking for an island hood for their cooktop, not IF they should be putting the cooktop in the island. For us personally, my prepping and cooking is very intertwined, and we entertain a lot. Ergo, I want to be facing my guests while prepping AND cooking, and not facing my guests during cleanup (THAT sink is behind the prep area against a wall), so the cooktop in the island is what we did and we (and guests) LOVE it and wouldn't go back. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely right for me. Having said all that, yeah, sadly the hood is going to be expensive. We went with a Best by Broan IEX222 51" with a 1500 CFM externally mounted blower. The pros are that the thing will suck up ANYTHING at full speed. The con is that we've had it for 7 years, and unfortunately have gone through 4 control modules or transformers on the thing (everything on it stops working). So nn my frustration I'm now researching replacement hoods, which is going to be $$. It's the price you pay for the style you want. Currently evaluating Cavaliere and Imperial 54" hoods....

First please describe any limitations on the duct size, the duct length, whether an external blower can be used, and how you intend to make up the air pulled from the apartment by the blower (as opposed to gagging it with no make-up air).

I found out that the FrigidairePromotions.com rebate only applies to purchases from certain stores and the store I purchased from doesn't apply. The net price after matching Best Buy's $1399.99 sales price earlier this week is still less than if I had purchased from the eligible store and then got the rebate. Best Buy's price is up to $1699.99 now. I just submitted the rebate from the electric company and should get that credit back in a few weeks, The FGIH3047VF range is installed and working and everything looks good so far. It's not really smudge proof because the delivery mens' hands were dirty enough to still leave alot of smudges, However, the smudges wiped off much more easily from this surface than from normal real stainless steel. One surprise with this range is that it uses a full touch screen and not the plastic flex buttons like on FGIF3036TF. These type of controls feel more upscale like my previous Electrolux, but this also means it will be more expensive to repair if it fails after warranty. It "should" still be somewhat cheaper to repair the controls though since this screen technology is more mainstream in appliances than when the Electrolux used it in 2010 and it doesn't have the "Wave Touch" sensor feature the Electrolux did. This range also feels slightly more sturdy than the floor model FGIF3036TF I looked at. The largest burner is larger than I expected. So, it should be no problem with the largest pans I have. The specs say it is 8.3 inches, but I measured about 10 inches. Maybe the coil is 8.3" underneath, but the largest pan size marker on the cooktop measures 10 inches.
