Funny you guys should mention the "Z" closure bag. The Snapper I picked off the curb had that particular bag with it. Since I don't bag my clippings but dump them on a compost pile behind the shed in my back yard the large dump door style works better for me. My large dump door bag comes off easily enough for me and the biggest concern is to have the mower engine shut off to avoid a face full of grass from the chute. I use a modified "sling shot" casting system of dumping the bag similar to casting a lure under low hanging branches. I hold the dump door closed with the left hand and with my right hand holding the handle on the chute gate part of the bag I start swinging the bag to the right over the compost pile and at the correct moment let go of the dump door handles. The inertia of the swinging bag causes the mass of grass in the bag to come flying out of the bag onto the mulch pile. While I like the fact that the "Z" closure bag holds more, it just isn't as easy to empty in my application. Oh well, to each their own and since I have both bag styles and they both fit either machine, I can always switch if I decide to bag or need the more accurate method of dumping that the "Z" closure bag affords. Well didn't read all you post but as far as the single wire goes, yes, it should be DC current for charging the battery. The charging wire on SOME riding mowers and law tractors goes back thru the positive wire of the switch. Yours only has a kill wire to the switch, a ground wire. Walt Conner

I wont talk about price as i have no clue about its details, but.. You should take a Snapper ReR for a test mow before buying one, from what i have saw, you either love them or hate them. I own 2, a 33" single blade model, and a 42" dual blade model, personaily i love the simplistic design, easy to work on, and so far not overly expensive parts, they turn real sharp, have great traction in rear,but front can slide out easily trying to turn up hill like from cutting across a hill, not much weight up there, going up steep hills they can wheelie up if you have to clutch, but i havent found it to be a problem if you know how to operate it. Drawbacks, again to me, are the one to one steering, if you have rutty, uneven ground, dips, holes, etc, the steering will tend to jerk around a lot. If lawn is relitivey smooth, no problem and steering works great. Mine are both 1985 models, both 11 hp. I get a better cut with the 42" than i did with a 33" but my lawn is 'bumpy' so the 33" scalped more, the 42 has rollers where the 33" does not. Have used LT's of same horsepower, with same 42 or smaller decks, and i find the Snapper has more blade power than the LT's i have owned. Snappers will last a lifetime with a little care and few parts as anything will need. They are just suited to personal taste, so again if you can, test it out before buying, they are a whole different animal than a LT. By the way, i got my 33" free, needed a engine, and paid 20.00 for the 42" it needed carb cleaned, a deck belt,a battery and a couple tires from sitting and rotting them out.Been using it two years now..

I bought a used Murray (Snapper twin) with a 10hp Tecumseh from a man in Monterey Cal. 30". Its had some use..... and the model numbers are missing, and it probably is at least 15 years old. But I am pragmatic enough to try and keep things running. Last week I bogged it down and sheared off the spindle pulley. I was ready to retire it. With the help of this forum---albeit with links to suppliers, I now have a new spindle (old one was toast), we are waiting upon the arrival of the new pulley, and yesterday I replaced the starter motor. That Tecumseh motor while is loud, it pulls like a ox. And the 30" blade always did a great job. Now with the new parts being installed along with a new blade (I could still use a new seat), I am anxious to get it back to service. SINCE as others have said, it wiggles in thru gates and areas not accessible to my riding lawn tractors that I also own. When I switched from a trimmer mower to a riding mower last year on my yard I never dreamed of the various problems that I encountered with the larger 42" lawn tractors. Like shearing off sprinkler heads, running it off the curb into the street while trying to negotiate the trees, and sneaking into the backyard via the gates. I'd buy another one in a minute. As long as this unit keeps on Snappin I will use it. (Even if my sons think it's gay looking compared to the John Deere riding mower....). I like it. I use mine. I think they are great. I am looking forward to having a new spindle on mine---and a new blade. While I might miss out on the great message the unit gave me it still will serve us well for a long time to come.
