White crud on leaves
Comments (9)Anne, my Gramhats here certainly have that issue. But then, so do most of my other roses, as well. I think that is a factor in the leaf-drop we've had here on many roses. In addition to heat-stress, the leaves were just SO bad, they fell off. New foliage coming back in is lovely. I know this winter won't bring us "drought-busting" rain. I'd be grateful, though, for just enough rain to dilute all of that mineral build-up in the soil. 'Lady Ann Kidwell' was among the first to drop her foliage. She's got all new leaves now, and is just finishing a huge flush of bloom....See More"Damask crud"
Comments (8)I'm convinced this is "damask crud" (a coinage that I think originated on this site), but I'm unsure if damask crud is a form of blackspot. For one thing--when blackspot spots mature and sporulate, they develop a shiny area in the middle of the spot where the slimy conidia are being extruded. No sign of that here. On the other hand, I've been reading about rose foliar spot diseases for forty years, and if there's a significant one distinct from blackspot, cercospora, spot anthracnose, and downy mildew, it's not mentioned in the literature. Yet the symptom pictured is really common on damasks and portlands and some other varieties. It looks more similar to blackspot than to the other known spot diseases....See MoreToday will be wasted - My yearly crud
Comments (14)since we're still posting on this thread, i'll just post here about my friend and getting her a tablet or something... I went ahead and just bought her a laptop - comes with tech service for the life of it. I also told her what I wanted to do - and am glad I did. She didn't want anything pink or orange and maybe not even black - lol! I got her purple! bless her heart, I thought she was gonna cry! she asked 'why are you doing this'? to which I answered 'so you can keep in touch with your kids, gkids - and hopefully, me!' She told me that no one there (she lives w/her mom in same town with her 2 sisters) does anything for her or to help her. Her 2 sisters sound very, very selfish. I knew the 1 was and hoped the oldest wasn't like that. It isn't for lack of $s for any of them - all are very well off. except her. She also told me she'd never had a computer (I didn't think she did) but she was sure she could learn how to use it. She also mentioned that her oldest sister and her dh come to her moms and used their laptops there. I don't know if they get online while there tho. I'm not sure she'd know that. She is going to check with her phone co. on the internet connection part. Her mom does have a landline (I was pretty sure she did). I gave her the option of a laptop or one of the new 'all in one' types. She wanted the laptop so she could take it with her - she said when she's gone (in hospital or at her friend's house down the street) her sisters come by and go thru her stuff and take things. Her mom says she can't stop them... what a mess! It'll be here this next week. Since I've been working on my new system this past week w/win 10, I've gotten a grip on a few things, so while I have the laptop I'm going to do some updating on it for her. turn off MS gathering info from it. DL a virus type protection for her, set her up with IE (so less complicated than MS Edge), etc. and test its speed against the speed of my laptop. If too slow, I might send it back... I might even set her up an email (she can always delete it and make one for herself later after she's comfortable with it). just 1 less thing for her to be confused by... for someone who's never had email or a computer! at least she'll have a way to email me questions about things on it. And she'll have Cortana. I'll have to warn her about those things... her Cortana won't be very smart once I turn off her 'spying'. She'll also have the tech svc. I have no doubt she'll master it all in no time flat! When I mail it to her, I'm going to pad the box with clothes for her. I have a bunch here that I have yet to send to her. When she told me nothing pink, orange etc I knew I needed to go thru that box again... lol! and pull out anything pink, orange, black, etc. tomorrow I plan to spend setting up my laptop so I'll be use to it when hers gets here. I'm house bound until at least mid /late Monday anyway.. Car is in shop. Some of the work needed done before it heats up too much here - and it might be up into low 90s early this coming week....See Morecomputer crud??
Comments (15)Open up Task Manager and click on Processes and then Services. You will find running a lot of things that you don't need. Right click on them and then choose "End" or "Stop". I have a Sony Vaio computer and I stop from running all of the Vaio services such as Vaio update, Vaio Smart Network, Vaio Event Service etc. Computers come loaded with this stuff. I also stop Skype (I don't Skype), Windows Search (read that this is a memory hog and I don't know what it does), Xbox (I don't have), Windows Error Reporting Service, Windows Push Notifications User Service, Windows Biometric Service, and a lot more. If you right click on them, there is a selection for "Search Online" to help you determine if you need these things....See MoreAquaEyes 7a NJ
