Removed Wallpaper...need reassurance for preparing walls
Comments (2)GARDZ is the best choice. GARDZ must be used prior to the skimcoat and should be used following the skim coat.In your case, it's also the best way to prime and avoid reactivating any residual wallpaper paste. Apply GARDZ on the damaged areas and let dry. Patch or skim coat the damaged areas. Let dry and then sand. Wipe away sanding dust and then prime the entire wall surfaces with GARDZ. After GARDZ is dry, it is ready to be painted. Michael...See MoreWallpaper Removal Help Needed!
Comments (11)NEVER paint over wallpaper!! You do NOT need to replace that drywall. I used a steamer to remove the HUGE amount of wallpaper in my house - every bathroom, the entire kitchen and dining room was wallpapered. And it was not a "peel off" either - no primer. I tried the sprays and chemicals and they sucked. The steamer was messy, but man it did the job. Just put down plastic or canvas drop cloths to protect the floors. I got as much glue off as I could and got it as smooth as I could, using a good scraper to remove all the bits. I used joint compound to fill in any holes or gouges. After drying, and then sanding smooth, I used Gardz over the entire wall. This stuff SEALS THE WALL, and it is awesome. You do want to get off as much adhesive as you can, but the Gardz will seal it up so that you can prime and paint. https://www.thehandymansdaughter.com/repair-torn-drywall-paper-zinsser-gardz/...See MoreRemoving textured wallpaper help
Comments (5)If you can remove all the top paper, the bottom white is the backing, and you can spray it with warm water, and then it should all scrape off fairly easy. Once off, scrub the wall good, and make any repairs needed, and prime it good, and then paint it....See Morewallpaper removal help!
Comments (10)House was built in the 70s. I’ve already removed the wallpaper from the hallway, living room, kitchen, dining room, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and all hallways. There was even wallpaper on the ceiling in 2 rooms. Some of the rooms were easier than others, but I hadn’t encountered this level of damage to the underlying drywall before. Thanks all, for your comments. Sounds like there’s nothing I can do, just have to skim coat and sand before painting. Which I expected to have to do anyway. Just surprised by how much damage there is to the drywall. Good news is that after this room there’s just the half bath and laundry room left. Wish me luck! :)...See Moregeoffrey_b
