Tile guy says Am. Olean subways are too irregular for gray grout.
Comments (4)We had an entire bathroom done in American Olean white subway tile earlier this year, with charcoal grout. It looks great. No tile irregularities at all. Grout lines and spacing are just fine........See MoreFireplace
Comments (40)This will be too fun! I can't believe I never considered doing this over the past 10 years. @zorroslw1, your surround sounds beautiful. I think if I didn't have so much navy throughout the house, I would have considered soapstone more. The black+navy combo would bother me. Thanks @omelet and @dreamhouse26! I gave our cabinet maker a few pictures and he ran with it. One of the ones I tried mimicking was @michelle's fireplace. I can't seem to find it again on here though. Hers is stunning! Comments (14)not contributing anything new-darker, or rather contrasting, grout when you want to emphasize the shape or the pattern of the tile, blending-close to the color of the given tile grout-if you don't here's another thought for you..light gray/bone will be probably fine. the darker you take it-the stronger the contrast. which might be amazing looking and all but take into consideration-not everybody is doing great with high contrast, especially very dark and very light together, colors and lines interchanging frequently as in with the grout and tiles..it makes a lot of people dizzy-not good for a space like a bathroom where you'd rather not feel dizzy if it was for your own enjoyment and you handle high contrast well-go for it if it's for resale-take into consideration a pretty big amount of people that will find it hard on their eyes i also wanted to go with contrasting grout..fortunately i realized i'd be the first to fall in my own shower, surrounded by this striking geometry again, if it's just a tad darker color though-it will probably look cool and still be fine with the majority of the buyers...See MoreWhite vs gray grout for white subway tiles in shower
Comments (4)I like the contrasting gray grout, but for resale (in my area - mostly 100 year old homes, HCOL) I'd definitely go with matching (white) grout (well, just a bit off white to hide dirt). While many do like the gray grout on white tile, plenty are turned off by it. I doubt many buyers would be actually turned off by white grout on white tile. Its just 'safer,' at least according to real estate agents where I live (I asked many when I was doing my master bath). And, if the tile work isn't very straight, the contrasting color will magnify that problem. With similar color grout you won't notice tile issues as much. I guess the best thing to do - if you are concerned about resale - is ask a real estate broker in your town. HTH!...See MoreFori
