OK to mulch mow oak leaves?

My next door neighbor has an enormous oak tree in his front yard. The last two weeks, I've seen him blow the leaves to a large area toward the back of his yard, then use his riding mower to basically chop and shoot them out into the wooded area behind us.

So at our annual neighbors' Halloween get together last night, I asked him why he doesn't just mulch mow them into the lawn where they fall. He said he was told that oak leaves are too acidic for the grass.

Michigan soil tends to be alkaline. Since all of my hydrangea macrophyllas, front and back yard, are pink, I don't think our area is an exception.

Question for the experts - would he be OK with mulch-mowing his oak leaves where they fall?

Thanks!
