ALICIA7B HI! After ALL these comments, and posts, that went WAY off the track, to what YOU posted, asked for, ...did you EVER find any of the OLD/ANTIQUE/ORIGINAL Christmas Cactus from anyone? I was sent THIS post, to look at.... I have just put up my own post, looking for cuttings of the plant myself. My original one, that was over 150yo!! The last of it JUST died, and it is weeks before X-mas now. Nice gift:( I was the one in the family to be entrusted to keep it alive, I am the gardener in the family. But after 3.5 decades in south Fla. after living in Conn. all its life, and mine, it died. I got some cuttings of the ORIGINAL cactus after mine started to rot and die slowly over a period of years, from some very nice people, like 5 years ago. But THOSE plants just gave out on me, after a super HOT summer, and Hurricane Irma coming through my city, it just got to stressed, I assume, and it finally died. Did YOU ever get any cuttings/stems from someone with a huge specimen...and maybe might be willing to part with a few more? IF you even see this reply to your post....I am hoping you do....maybe you can tell me who to ask. Thank you. ******* I see a picture of a HUGE pot of the X-Mas cactus, you got it from someone. You got A LOT of cuttings from someone!!! Wow! THAT is the one I am desperate to get. I can see a few other pics. But they are not the same thing. This is an old post, so the pictures are not showing up. I dont see how a cactus that is over 150yo,...mine was,...can be a 'hybrid'. It is the one that all the others came from! I cant read ALL these posts, but i read a few, and someone said it was a hybrid. All i know is that THIS is the one i would like to find. I hope YOU or someone sees this, and can help me out. THIS was my 150+ yo specimen. Maybe YOU can help me out? That one you have is huge, and now 6 years later, it must be much bigger...??? Care to share????

Hey Josh! I was using the clemson page below for my proper name, however Schlumbergera x buckleyi must most certainly be right because it is a hybrid. TC and CC are often mistake for each other. It seems that true CC were once more common than TC, so due to the age of the plant(would have been 40-50 years old now if it wasn't dead) and her saying CC, i was assuming it was true CC. But after more and more google searching I can find no white CC, only tons of white TC. This does make the search easier indeed. I can find plenty of sources for these. Thanks so much everyone! My mother-in-law moved into a senior center and didn't have room for the Christmas Cactus. She said she grew it from a start given to her by her former nanny. The nanny died about 1947, so that's one old plant. I'd really hate to kill the plant she's loved for so long. Thanks again for the links.

I have an accidental mixture of oxalis and Christmas cactus, but now I love it! I'm very fond of oxalis because it is so easy and stays nice and green in winter and blooms tiny pretty white blooms all the time. I think I might put more things in there, make a bigger mixture, more varied textures. And yes, there are downsides to everywhere we live and grow, but I do love Ohio! I used to go to Florida at least once a year, usually around Christmas (Christmas break from school) and my family would stay with my Gpa, who lived smack dab in the middle of the state, and my parents would do day trips with us to the coasts - we'd drive for hours, spend the day at the beach . . . sigh. :-) I have also been to Sanibel, love that place! And Destin, love it there, too. I'd watch the little hermit crabs and tiny white crabs scurry around. I think the OP was about the cactus and moisture, and I don't have problems with keeping my Christmas cactus moist in winter in Ohio, where it gets really dry inside. I even have one pot of cuttings in a hanging basket, and it's fine moisture-wise, and so pretty - like a firecracker. I have problems with other things, though. I have a dollar store plastic serving tray I got on clearance and I lined it with pea gravel, I keep it moist, it makes a difference. I don't mist the Christmas cactus, I also don't keep it continually moist, I let it dry out, as it is an epiphyte. I think my hanging basket one is the happiest, really, but my mamma plant is just massive, so she's in a big pot on the counter, other plants grouped around her.
