We didn't put in under cabinet lighting, so the dim glow from the brown globes has that same "night light" glow to them....very soft, very curvy, I think Italian murano glass when I look at them...but they also look retro to me... DH wants "bright" light and masculine....they have lots of other choices at Lowes for these. I liked the square heavy/1/4" thick white glass ones, but they were small too. They had little blue ones, hat shaped ones,black & white stripes...etc... I appreciate ALL your input.....keep em coming....I need help!!! Thanks for all of the input!!! It sounds like a pendant may not be in my future. I loved the idea of it but as I was looking at it more, I was worried that there might be too much going on there. I was having second thoughts and wanted to get opinions from all of you. Holly-Kay: we are planning on changing out the chandelier above the table to a bronze finish to tie in with the darker wood and fireplace things. But I see how a pendant above the sink might be too much. Snookums2: we removed the dark screens and it looks much better. I can't wait for everything to get started! I thought about tiling to the ceiling but wasn't sure since our cabs don't go to the ceiling. We are going to add a taller crown but nowhere near ceiling height. That may be the subject of another post. Nosoccermom: great idea about hanging a balloon. I don't have photoshop but maybe I could cut and paste something there and post again. I like them all - have looked at most of them myself. I ended up with the Tech Lighting Jayden Grande pendants in clear because when they brought one out from the back to show me I just fell in love with it. I actually didn't like it all that much online and I'm not generally a crystal girl, so I'd suggest seeing them in person if at all possible because it can really change your perspective. My take on #2 with re. to DH's concerns - I don't think the polished vs. stainless or brushed is a big issue, and the pattern would probably work since it isn't competing with anything. My thinking is that the light has a dainty/delicate feel with the flower design and I'm not sure how well dainty/delicate works with your kitchen. If it were geometric I'd probably be more comfortable with it, but that's just me. In some ways the flowers add a bit of the unexpected which is fun too. Of your other 4 options - I really like #1 and think it would look great, thought it looked very pretty in person too. They have it in clear with black wrapped around the inside white cylinder which would be pretty and pull in the black granite. #3 would really be a knockout especially if you end up with stainless in your tile. (I love the tile with stainless in it, by the way.) Another light I saw that I absolutely loved, and the sales guy called "sexy" which was an apt term, and would look awesome in your kitchen - was a jet black glass one. The glass was completely opaque - not just a dark smokey gray. As I recall the light didn't diffuse out the sides of that one. It stayed black when lit with the light just projected downward. It was gorgeous and would look stunning with your granite. It had the shape of the first pic in your "alternates" list and the Tech Lighting one badgergirl shows. Stunning but maybe not as much light as you are hoping for. So many fun things to select from out there! But too many choices can make it so hard. Good luck!

I have the same pendants as @mihelene. I have NO issues with glare although plenty of folks on this site warned about that and said it would be a problem ----- it has not been. I will second, though, that they do have to be cleaned regularly and that is another task to keep up on; although I often wonder if I had something not clear, surely it would be getting just as dirty and need cleaning.....? Maybe I should just feel grateful that my lights make me keep a cleaner house. ;) Also, it seems to me that the height of your ceiling isn't such an issue as the height the pendants are recommended to be hung is 30-36" above your counter top regardless of what height your ceiling is. I have 9' ceilings and my globes are about 15.5" long. I don't think an 8' ceiling would be a problem. (My sister in law has 8' ceilings and she just installed fixtures similar to your posted picture. They seem bigger than mine (perhaps just in width) and they look good.)
