Need ideas for replanting totem pole cactus
Comments (7)Bummer! That's a nice looking specimen. I agree with your initial thoughts and what the other folks have mentioned. I'd trim off enough of the branches to be able to lift it back up and to not have it lean in the direction it fell, and then I'd lift it on up and really tamp down the soil. Putting a nice big rock nearby to stabilize it might help--plus it would look great too. You can just store the cuttings somewhere for several days to many weeks and then re-plant them. Good luck! Let us know what you do and how it works out! Happy gardening!...See MoreCactus needs help!
Comments (5)Mama Shov, A euphorbia is a great plant to grow, comes in hundreds of species and form, but all have latex that's potentially an irritant to toxic, so be careful, have some lukewarm water nearby to staunch the flow, wear gloves, a long-sleeved shirt and eye protection, at least until you know what you're doing, and even when you do. Probably best to do this on the ground. Take the plant out, trim it up, and repot - in the same pot or different, but IMHO you have an appropriately-sized pot. Fresh porous soil will give it a chance to grow for the next few months until you have to bring it in for the winter....See MoreOrphaned Pencil Cactus - Need Advice
Comments (10)I find many cool things on the sidewalk that New Yorkers throw out :) This one might be my best find so far, and it was two doors down from me! Makes me wonder if the person who had it had a problem with the sap. I've gotten it on me twice, and washed it off thoroughly with soap and water right away, and I didn't get any irritation at all, though (whew!) I can see now that some of the branches are quite long, and therefore droop due to their own weight...probably. I was definitely thinking of trying to train the branches upward, unless they are too heavy to bother with...? And maybe the ones that are bent/broken will have to be turned into cuttings. If I cut off a branch right at the stem, will a new one grow in its place? I think that my real battle here will be to convince my boyfriend that it's a really cool plant, and not some stick thing that lost all of its leaves ;)...See MoreNeed ID on this Cactus, Succulent
Comments (3)Awesome Pencil bush, I have one that is 6 feet tall and was given to me as a cutting from a local nusery that was closing down. I have owned it for about 5 years now....See Morecactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5
