Last month we got Netflix and I have watched all of Orange is the New Black, loved it and also Grace and Frankie, loved that too. Any suggestions of other series that you found interesting?

Lisa, yes that bathtub scene was quite something, actually the first three episodes are very intense, hope it continues. I will add Fargo to my list, if it is based on the movie Fargo, I will like it.

jessh -Leverage on my list too...thanks

I may have to cancel my cable subscription, the only shows I like are Amazing Race, Survivor, Coronation St and Shark Tank.

Isn't shark tank on broadcSt television? You can get a "rabbit ear" for broadcast, subscribe to Netflix, and you will have plenty of good viewing.

There was a time that Firefox (and its Netscape predecessor) offered a better experience than Internet Explorer. I think that time has passed. I've had too many quirky incidents and problems with Firefox lately, so I've stopped using it. My experience is that IE has improved a bunch while FF has sunk, and Chrome is also solid (though it seems to be not as compatible with some web features as IE is). Life is too short to drink bad wine. It's also too short to struggle with one free browser, when there are a half dozen also free alternatives that are perfectly satisfactory.

Bumblebeez - whenever I happen upon Last of the Mohicans while channel flipping I stop immediately and watch it again. It gets me every time. Last night it was on AMC - Story Notes, an AMC feature where they insert captions at the bottom of the screen with brief 'notes' about the film. It's the first time I watched one - the notes were interesting the first time, but I wouldn't want to see it that way again. But I discovered you can simply read a list of the trivia on AMC's web site. Here is a link that might be useful: AMC Story Notes - Last of the Mohicans

CindyMac, I have to retract my favorable comments re: Handmaids Tale as we just finished watching the 2nd season. Without giving anything away, some character's took a bizarre explicable turn which cheapened the story. And it was torture porn without any emotional relief. To lighten up, we are watching THE QUEER EYE on Netflix. Although some of the antics are a bit MUCH, the transformations are enjoyable.

I got sucked into Breaking Bad a few years ago. It's so out of character for me to like a show like that but I couldn't stop watching.

Same here. I had never heard of the show. Was flipping channels one night. Halfway through the episode I was hooked.

RoseAbbey, have you seen The Good Wife? Blacklist? How to Get Away with Murder?

The Shark Tank can be dangerous. I found myself ordering Three Jerks jerky Friday night and I don't even like the stuff, but dh does. ;)

Witnesses is a French detective series that I liked and Broadchurch with David Tennant. I am waiting for the 2nd seasons of both those.

Actually I havent seen Good wife, Blacklist or How to get away with Murder. I have wanted to, my friend is always talking about them, but they have always been on cable TV too late for me, I go to bed at 10. I try to stay up but will fall asleep during the commercials. I see Netflix has those TV shows so I will definitely be watching and yahoo no commercials!

Will add Witnesses and Broadchurch to my list too, thanks cyn.

maddielee - Duh! I thought it was just my lack of expertise with all "e" things! I just updated all my watch lists online. Thank you!

  • cawaps

Yeah, I manage my list exclusively via my computer. I have 400+ items in my watch list (at least 25% of them are kids things for my daughter). A mix of series and movies. Sometimes I know what I want to watch and sometimes I just scroll though the movies and randomly stop on something and watch that.

When you add something to your list online, it pops a a box of additional recommendation--if you like that, you may like these! Sometime it's based on theme, sometimes actors, vintage. Some of the recommendations will be good (some not so much). It's one of several tools to help you find new content. Netflix also lets you rate things, and then provides recommendations based on some algorithm. It has trouble predicting what I'll like because I like a lot of things. And it can't distinguish me from my daughter, which causes it to recommend a lot of tween stuff.

Back in the olden days, when you had to go to the video store and rent something, I had a terrible reputation for going in, spending an hour browsing and unable to make a decision, and then leaving with nothing because I used up all the time I had available on browsing and not watching. Having a pre-screened list is good for me.

Breaking Bad got me hooked on the Netflix TV series. We watched it the summer before last. Love Jesse as he's a good guy underneath it all. There's a prequel now, Better Call Saul, which I haven't seen.

I liked Justified better than BB. That series ended this past spring. Fargo is about a dozen episodes and was great too. Love those quirky Coen brothers.

We tried Orange, House of Cards, and Longmire and couldn't get through more than a few episodes. Looking for our next series since I don't watch much regular TV or movies.

I am not sure if these are all on Netflix but are my absolute favorites.

!. Lost Best show I have ever seen. You really get into the characters and the storyline is like no other. I love how eery it is.

    1. Boardwalk Empire Also great characters and it is done so well. I would say it is one of the most quality shows. It is set during prohibition and I love the history and the sets that look so real.

    3. Breaking Bad of course! That is a true nail biter!!!

    1. Mad Men Slow at first but you will fall in love good or bad with the characters

    2. Game of Thrones So much action and interesting plots and twists.

    3. Fargo The first season. Billy Bob Thornton was amazing! This show had incredible humor and a really dark side to it.

    4. Rectify About a man who is released from prison and death row. He is an incredible character. After spending his entire adult life in prison he is a like a child when he is let out back into the free world.

    5. Penny Dreadful Creepy and great cast

9 The Knick About a doctor who has the biggest God complex and is a drug addict but also a genius. It is set in 1902. It is incredible to watch how primitive medicine was only 100 years ago.

    1. The Americans

    11 The Fall

I am sure I am missing some goodies but that is my list (not necessarily in exact order)

Bored to Death: One of the funnies shows I have ever seen!

thank you Aktillery, I will add those , good to get some comedies on the list too.

I am amazed at how many good shows there are on netflix. A couple of years ago when my daughter and son in law gave up on cable and had netflix only I thought, what a mistake, they will only get to pick from old movies that have been on cable tv. I guess I really didnt understand what netflix was all about because there is so much great stuff to watch, on my schedule, to boot. I can see how cable tv with those commercials will become non existent just like the video rental stores.

We've watched three episodes of The Knick and it's one of the best series I've seen. I love historical fiction, and the set scenes are so rich in detail. Love all that Rejuvenation lighting! Great characters, acting, and stories within the story. The supporting characters are just as interesting as the main character. Thanks for the recommendation, aktillery!

    Jessica Jones.

We just finished Jessica Jones. I'm not a Marvel comics kind of gal, but I really got into this story.

It's well done, takes some good twists and turns, and although it's dark, it balances with a quirky cast of characters and leaves you rooting for some very ansavory heroes.

Finally saw Fargo (the movie) and the first season of the TV show. All were available through the library. Heard that a third season won't happen until 2017. :(

Loved Jessica Jones! My husband enticed me to watch it by telling me it was chock full of strong female characters and it was, although I wasn't so hooked on the last couple of episodes.

Justified is a great all purpose mystery show for many audiences including, like me, lovers of Walton Goggins. Big fan of the fivehead.

Canadian Netflix is a little different, mostly worse, but we do have some great British shows including Sherlock (Cumberbatch), Call The Midwife (post WWII), Luther (contemporary noir detective wi/Idris Elba), Bletchley Circle (post WWII), House of Cards BBC, Peaky Blinders (gangster family epic post WWI) some oldies but goodies like IT Crowd (hilarious) and Black Books (even more hilarious).

Parks and Recreation is another great longrunning comedy series that can appeal to anyone.

All anyone on my friendslist can talk about is Making a Murderer which is a documentary TV series similar to Serial (the podcast series).

I was kind of hoping somehow there might be more than the 2 episodes to season 4. I had to buy them on amaxzon but the other seasons were on netflix. It was such a good show and not what I was expecting. (I thought it was about superheros for some reason :) ) I thought Alice was fabulous too!

I binge-watched the documentary series "Making a Murderer" and it was riveting. Didn't realize it was 10 hours of episodes but could not stop once I started. It was over two days but seriously, it was so compelling and addictive. Highly recommend.

The Making a Murderer mania has now spread to my work...my coworker started watching "just one episode" last night and said he couldn't sleep for thinking about the show (four episodes later).

  • mayflowers

I can't think of the critics name, but he put Justified as number two on his list for Best of 2015. I had never heard of it. It certainly didn't get all the buzz that Breaking Bad got. Top of his list was Better Call Saul, but we watched season one and it's really kind of a snoozer.

  • Boopadaboo

I think I wasnt in the right frame of mind maybe last night (tired) I couldn't get in to making a murderer.

I never got in to Breaking Bad either Mayflowers. Maybe I will checki out that other one (Better Call Saul)

I am mad at Amazon :p the current seasons shows used to be about $25. I didnt have cable and I love about 10 shows so I could justify the purchase. this year they all went to $40 and I just can't bring myself to pay for them! So now I am scrounging around for things to watch :)

Love Luther. trying to find the next thing to see. I have the following on my check it out list: Nurse Jackie, mysteries of Laura, Arrow, crossing lines, flashpoint, Copper, Black Mirror. I tried Hawaii 5-0 and Portlandia and just couldnt get in to them.

I watched Marie's Story (movie) last night. Think the Miracle Worker but in France with nuns. Deaf and blind girl is taken in by a convent-run school for the deaf becomes civilized and learns to communicate. A good portion of the dialogue is in sign language (the rest is in French) so it is a very quiet movie (mostly).

After watching Justified (I am nearly finished) I am on to Deadwood. I never thought I would like it but it is a period show and has Timothy Olyphant playing a similar character as he does in Justified. I adore his character on Justified... plus just looking at him! lol So, I think I will really like Deadwood. Will keep you posted!!
