Iron Stains on toilet bowl
Comments (4)I guess it depends on how eco-friendly you want to be, but the cheapest and fastest thing I have found is a product called "the works" at my local dollar store. You don't even want to know what the toilet looked like when I moved in my home before I cleaned it. I may have been the first. It works really well on iron and on hard water stains. I actually put half of the bottle in the bowl, swished it around good and left it sit over night. Another good swish and scrub in the morning and it came right out. PS- I am not buying the story from the PO's of the house that it was the water, because it has never looked that way again or even close. LOL....See MoreCan't remove toilet bowl stain buildup
Comments (50)What my mom had to do was drain all the water out of the toilet and hand scrub the sides with an abrasive sponge with Comet and in some very difficult places she used a pumice stone. Turn off the water at the base of toilet and then flush until the water does not refill the bowl. She has very hard water and at the water level, there was a mineral line formed around it. It was such a job to get off but both she and dad worked on it for quite awhile!...See MoreCan't Remove Anchor Bolt on Toilet Bowl
Comments (30)Ok folks, I'm thrilled to announce that I was successful in removing the toy obstruction! I whipped out my angle grinder, removed the safety guard on it to get in tighter, and took it to the two bolts - they came off with ease. If I had to do it over, the only thing I would have done differently was to shimmy some cardboard pieces behind the grinder blade, just to protect the toilet bowl surface. You can see in the photo how the porcelain was marred slightly. I'm going to use Mr. Clean 'Magic Eraser's pad as a last attempts to clean up the black marks. But other than that, everything was smooth sailing. I dismounted the tank prior to lifting up the toilet, which help to reduce the load. Once I flipped over the toilet bowl, there was the toy stuck right at the end of the trap - it wasn't a pretty sight. It was jammed in there pretty good, so now I know why plunger, auger, and shop-vac failed. The install with the new wax ring went great and the toilet flushes very efficiently now. Incidentally, I also removed the seat cover from the toilet and couldn't believe how filthy those bolts were - again not pretty. So I'm ordering new seat covers for all the bathrooms in the house Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts and experience with me!...See MoreNew toilet - how to keep clean (hard water stains)?
Comments (23)So I had done some re-plumbing on my house and installed a water softener loop at the time - meaning it was mostly ready to go. The unit sits on the floor. Many people useflex lines with sharkbite fittings to connect them to make the installation easier. I'm not a huge fan of that... but it does simplify things a lot. You may need some drain hose as well. Look at the photos and read the reviews to see some of the installs on Amazon. There is a photo of my install on there - but know that my install was part of a complete re-do, so don't use that as an example. There are lots of youtube videos on it including putting in the correct settings on the Fleck valve....See Morenerdyshopper
