Comments (64)Elle3, Thank you so much for letting me know you like the staggered also. The installer today liked the staggered with the shape of my kitchen and I think it is an updated look that is becoming popular. I have the diagonal in the two foyers and it looks nice but after I spread the tiles out on the floor, I just liked the staggered first, diagonal second and the straight third just like mercymygft. The installer today chose a dark mushroom color from Polyblend custom grout colors that too me looked like a taupe/gray color and yes it went with the gray veins in my tile but I like the Laticrete Mushroom color I chose to blend with the tiles and not stand out. He let me see his townhouse in a different complex that had solid cherry cabinets that he has professionally stained a Mahogany Cherry with crown molding and it looked great with the cherry floors in the other room. Maybe I should change the lighting and tile now and then make my decision on the cabinets? ksissy, I wish I could just change the cabinet doors but Home Depot's refacing place was ridiculously expensive at $18,400 but if I signed that night, $15,400! I wonder if someone can replace the doors at a cheaper price? I had planned on painting the cabinets BM Cloud White once I decided not to buy cabinets right now since I had wanted to go with Shiloh's Polar White Inset Cabinets with the hidden hinges. Now after seeing someone cherry kitchen this morning with cherry floors in the other room, I wonder if my cabinets will look better a little bit darker due to the cherry floors in the next room. I want new cabinets but I decided just not yet since there is too much down time with renovating the whole kitchen and the price is becoming too much for my townhouse in case I want to sell it one day....See MorePlease vote, mirrors
Comments (24)Thanks everyone for your input, it helps!! JR T - that single mirror has been in my mind since long before my bathroom came to be, but my older daughter wants 2 (younger wants 1 ... son doesn't care ;) So I found the 2 mirror option. But if not for everyone swearing by side-sconce as best, I think that single mirror would have already been up by now because I prefer the function of one mirror providing more reflection area and making the space feel wide open ;) Nancy in Mich, you are right about lower/eye-level sconces. I should have mentioned in my initial post that the sconces between the two mirrors WOULD be lower than the picture I posted of the two-mirror-option...in reality I would put the sconces at face level (I'm in MI too, btw :) tatts - Thank you for that comment about the clear glass, it was a concern I've had since I fell in love with them. I actually hate what clear-glass/exposed bulbs do to my eyes....I also worried about the fluting creating a reflection of light scattered in the way a crystal chandelier does...was going to post a separate quw=estion about it but now I don't have too :) They have a frosted version not quite as pretty but I am all about function first (hence the choice of porcelain 'marble' in lieu of the real deal) If I go with the 2 mirror / sconce option, I will go go with frosted glass Karen - thank you for your kind words and advice as well. I tried very hard to make this a very light/bright bathroom for my kids currently, but that will have some timelessness to it so that I can still like and enjoy it after they are all off to college. I have to ask, have you actually had a bad experience with side sconces at eye level? People SWEAR it is the way to go, but I always wonder about the reality from those who have actually had both. I have had the additional recessed lights above each sink, was hoping that would boost either option (side-sconce or overhead light). tvq1 - Thank you! The vanity is made by Mission Hills and I bought it through Costco because I needed a vanity in a hurry in order to keep up with the contractor! I think it is the Parker 60" but it also comes in 72, is well-made for the price and it arrived in less than a week! SReed - Thank you :) As far as putting the two mirrors together together though, I would be concerned that they would be too offset/far from the sinks? I do wish the one big mirror was a few inches more narrow ... Thanks to everyone else that commented as well, I really appreciate the responses because it all helps in the decision-making process! LAST QUESTION: If I end up going with the 2 mirror option, do you think that having only 1-2" of wall space at the top is ok? I wanted tall mirrors so it would make the room feel taller/larger, and I like the unexpected drama of it in a classic space (why i did the large niche as well) ....but I held two posterboards up to simulate the 24 X 48 mirror over one sink and it truly only leaves 1-2" of wall area on top and bottom. I should also mention that the two mirror option only leaves 7" of space between my right wall and outer-edge of right mirror (7-8" of space between mirrors ....left side of left mirror is open to wall behind toilet) I'm ok with it but if anyone has a strong opinion against it, please chime in!...See MoreTray coffered ceiling with beadboard. Comments (50)She already stated she cant remove the recently installed ceiling work. Rita, maybe you just didn't find the right designer? There are plenty of designers that will and should take your feedback and work towards a mutual end result. First if none of the work you've had done on the ceiling can be removed now then paint it all the same color as your ceiling to help it recede. I would still concentrate on finding some great lighting. It will be key here. I know nothing about Direct Buy so can't speak to their service. I like the Four Hands bed. Simple clean lines. I don't think the bedside tables are the best choice. I like the lines of the sofas. I don't think the leather topped upholstered ottoman/coffee tables work with the other elements like the rattan chairs. I can make some suggestions after I ask a few more questions. I like the Tulip style table nut I don't think I would go for the marble top. It seems top formal with everything else. Now my questions: 1. What do your Asian vases look like? I am picturing a red and black vase wit Bamboo one it. But you may mean something totally different? Chinoiserie? 2. Stained glass panels? Where would these go and what colors are in them? 3 ." nice shades of white".....so the items you're bringing have no color in them? Are you planning on having any color? Or do you just want to do all layered neutrals ? When you say coastal that generally equals a range of blues , whites and natural elements....See MorePlease vote - Which house do you prefer?
Comments (53)Thanks so much all! I appreciate everyone's input. To clarify - I was leaning towards modern farmhouse but now that I'm in the neighborhood, I'm drawn to the colonial homes native to the area and I'm leaning towards something more traditional. Those are not the *exact* houses I have to choose from - just three very different styles - I'd say #1 is more victorian, #2 craftsman, and #3 modern farmhouse.. This has really helped me let go of the modern farmhouse style that I do like, but it's just not right for the area.. Thank you!...See MoreHolly- Kay
