What random crap do you have...
Comments (18)There is an item of random crap sitting on the kitchen floor. How do i know? I stood on it at 3 this morning. What is it? It is some sort of paper that had been soaked in coffee and left there to dry. Why. Heaven knows!!! Then there is the garage. A total disaster. What's in there, apart from roaches. Bits of timber that might come in handy one day. I plead guilty. My daughter in laws stuff that she saved up prior to getting married. Boxes and boxes of it. The stuff that was in the house prior to the carpet getting replaced. Useful stuff like the ladder, the lawnmover and my golf clubs they are in the last empty spot near the door. No way that the car will fit in so it sits out in the weather going to rack and ruin. There are several morals to this story and the stories above. Never let relos store anything on your premises. Be very wary of someone saying that they want to take up art. Apart from possibility being mad. all artists accumulate all sorts of strange crap....See MoreDo you take tornado warnings seriously?
Comments (30)I do take the siren warnings seriously. Around here, they do not blow the sirens unless a funnel, or a very threatening cloud with a vortex in it, has been spotted. I've got place in the basement reserved for such events. It's in the SW corner under a heavy workbench. I've examined aftermath photos and came to believe that one needs protection from falling and cave-in debris. For example, I've seen a house that was shoved off its foundation and then dropped part way into the basement. it came to rest on stuff that was in the basement. One of my concerns is rupturing a gas line and getting trapped if a gas fire results. I don't worry about what happens to me if I am killed outright. Fortunately, I have had to take shelter only once in the last 10 years. We watch the channel carrying storm news and they will show the storm center and it path. We've had threats, but the worst was a hail storm about 4 years ago that did a lot of damage to autos and roofs. It banged up my roof vents....See MoreTiler put off start date for the 3rd time. Comments (9)He is taking jobs he'd prefer over yours, but he wants to keep yours available if the good stuff slows down. This is normal procedure, they never want to say "no" as what if something better doesn't show up? I'd look for someone that wants your job, not someone that will do it if nothing better is available. We had the same thing happen with our septic system. Called the "top" company in July - said we wanted it in Sept, they said "no problem" came out and give us a bid and everything. We thought we were good to go. Called in early Sept - Oh, sorry got too much other work, maybe October. Called October - We are still busy, will discuss it at meeting next day and see if we can fit you in. Never heard another word from them, so two weeks later I called a second company. They came out first of November and installed the septic. Less than a week later the first company shows up with a truck and equipment, ready to break ground. Good thing my Son was working nights at the time, so he was home and called me before they got to digging. I could not believe the gall - they never contacted me to even say they still wanted the job, and then show up over a month later ready to dig up my yard while I wasn't home. I wonder if they would have noticed that it had been recently dug up before they started - could have been a real mess if they would have dug up the new septic. When I called to ask them what was going on, the owner got real mad at me - how dare I contract with him and then give the job to someone else. I'll never deal with that prima-donna company again. There are enough out there that are willing to do work on an older farmhouse instead of only wanting the jobs with the $500,000 properties. So, yea, they won't tell you they don't want the job, but if better stuff comes along, they'll keep pushing you off. They are just keeping you as an "ace in the hole" in case nothing better comes along....See MoreWhere do your kids/you sit for tv viewing?
Comments (24)Sueb – Hmm. .we do have a finished basement. I prefer to be upstairs for tv, but maybe that will get used more in the years to come. Ha ! ‘whoever loses’ Daisey – I feel like I’m getting so old, lol. We don’t watch tv on anything other than the tv, but I’m sure that’s something that will change eventually here too. Mayflowers – but he comes from solid Scandinavian farm stock That made me chuckle. I think a sectional would work and give a two sitting spots while not going over the entrance like the current loveseat. I don’t know about an end table then. I don’t think there’d be room to the left (when facing the tv). With the current entertainment stand the tv viewing seats would be about the same. I’ve been working on some plans. I need to refine and clarify a few things, but I’ll be posting eventually asking for feedback. Melle – Nodding head yes. The couch and loveseat was the ONLY furniture I found IRL (traveled all over creation) that I liked. Didn’t measure anything. Then I went bonkers buying stuff off CL with no plan and no measurements. That’s how I ended up where I am today, lol. It’s been long enough now I can justify making some changes.I had to look up that chair. I never heard of it. Thanks! Mtnrd – An L shape sofa or section may be in the future. Ha, I already went to DH about knocking down walls or adding windows and after the bewildered look heard a no. Melis – We need to do something about our DVDs. We don’t have a lot, but I need some storage space. If we keep them I may end up putting them in a large holder and putting the cases in the attic. We think about getting Netflix on and off. I have a relative who loves it. Fori is not please – I love your name! Unfortunately I don't know if it would make a viewing difference the way the unit is made. It's also three sections. The whole thing is as long as my couch – 8’. Beanbags! Oh we have one! A big black one that’s in the basement family room. :) DH loves the thing. Roarah –I may end up getting some floor pillows in the future. Oh, I’ve love a fireplace! BBGalore – The entertainment stand is one of those things…I actually still like the piece itself. It is dated and that’s starting to bother me. It’s very solid, well made, and I like the storage. But I also think the whole room may benefit if I found it a new home. Crl – DS currently has his own chair that he likes, but he’s been on the furniture more lately. I’m looking forward to removing the chair actually! Just waiting…. Lynn – I think eventually here we’ll get a larger tv. I’m fine with a small one, but I think DH would be pleased with a larger one. Our gym has a very large tv that DH was happy to pick out, lol. Busy – you can angle the tv on a wall mount too... Yeeah, I realized after I typed that I think you can adjust the angle. “it has the corner that we could all (5) comfortably sit on it, with plenty of room to spare!” That’s good to hear. I never wanted a sectional because I don’t like that it’s all one large piece. I hog the loveseat to myself and DH the couch. Kitty – Thanks for sharing the story about your friend! I should bring that beanbag up. I bet DS would like it. Suzy – Pretty room!...See MoreRelated Professionals
