If the fixture does not weigh over 25 pounds, you could purchase a 2' piece of track and an end feed along with a pendant adaptor. The track would run from the box to where you need the fixture to hang (the track can be cut) and you would wire the fixture to the adaptor. This has been done many times. If you don't like the idea of the hook, but it is the easiest, you can get a cord cover which is sold in lighting showrooms that matches the colors in the fixture and just put that over the chain and hook, then extend it over to where the box is. FWIW, I have a bowl type pendant over my table and I like it a lot. I have a fixture with small lights over my island and I didn't want even 'more' small lights in my room such as a chandelier would give. And, like you I wanted a less formal look to my kitchen. Putting a dimmer on it will control the amount of light you have at any given time, and the pendant bowl will give a nice finish to your table & seating area. Having said that, if you would prefer the look of a semi-flush mount there is no rule out there that says you can't do it.

Comments on table shape: As you know, an oval table and a round table with leaves in are different ovals. An oval table is, as far as I can remember, NOT a hemisphere on each end. More pointed than that. I would look at them carefully, because your banquette will probably be hemispherical. I think a 54'' or maybe even a 60'' round will work for you in the space. With two leaves when you need to extend it. The style I would look for is a five foot round double pedestal or trestle table that could be extended with leaves. Be certain that when the leaves are inserted, the base spreads to provide a balanced top. Or, in a few tables, both circle halves move apart on glides, the leaf is inserted in the middle, and the base stays centered. (I think a pedestal or trestle table will provide better entrance clearance into the booth than a table with four legs, like the last one in the pics you posted.) I have seen antique ones like this., but not any modern ones that I can recall. Maybe someone will have suggestions. Maybe you can try out some tables in a good furniture store and see if the lop-sided extension on only one side of the pedestal is a problem. It sure is on mine. I love all these ideas! And Beth I love how you photoshopped the fixture into my kitchen pic! That is really brilliant! You all are giving me some courage and hope! I was really worried I’d blown it by going to bold with the pendants over the island since my kitchen table is so close in proximity to island. So I think what I’m hearing and seeing is ok to go with different style as long as there’s some element that ties in with island pendants - like shape or finish. I kind of like the idea of tying into the round shape of metal rings that frame bottom of pendant shades. I think the contemporary round fixture with fabric shade fits that theme with the ring of metal surrounding top and bottom of shade. Also the clear glass pendant has similar metal rings on it. I really like the blue fixtures as well. Do you all agree that I should keep diameter of fixture on the small side since things in my kitchen are so close to one another? You guys are the best!
