4 drawer stack next to 3 drawer?
Comments (8)If you're buying from the same manufacturer, they're usually built to automatically line up well. I have found, though, that for me the shallow depth of 4-drawer cabs makes them rather useless. Sure, there are things to put in them, but I can put far more in deeper, 3-drawer cabs. The top drawer is usually still the shallow one. I was able to buy a few custom cabs. Special depth for this MbR Tansu I am making. But I ordered 3-drawers and 4-drawers were delivered. Since they couldn't do anything with them, they gave them to me and ordered my 3-drawer cabs. So here I was with all these cabinets. I cut some up and have used all of them along a bedroom wall. I still don't know what to do with all those shallow drawers. Like spice cabinet drawers, I find them decorative. Here's a picture of the cabs in progress. Note how the top drawers do line up. Here is where I took a 3-drawer and cut it up, putting one of the deeper drawers on top of a 4-drawer. Things still line up: And for good measure, this is how it will fit into the run of cabs. On top of the far right, constructed drawers, I'm putting a 24x36 single door cab, and on top of that, a 24x12. But they're not made yet. So symmetry can happen. It's just a question of lines. But I strongly suggest you examine the depth of things you use regularly and buy the drawers to fit them. Then look how they line up. Comments (12)okay... this makes sense. the drawer arrangement is sort of busy and the idea of interior dividers is a good one. In the last house our drawers were 24" wide and I found it difficult to keep thing organized especially the smaller items like measuring cups, ramekins, tupperware lids, things like that. i think with the bank of two drawers I'd be likely to go back to inset which i really do love more than full overlay. thanks for your feedback. always so appreciated by me!...See MoreWarming drawer plus double ovens in one stack?
Comments (17)No, Gail, I don't have induction....at the time the cheapest ones were in the $4,000 range vs the $1,000 range for a "regular" electric cooktop. My DH did not want to pay that much for a cooktop plus have to buy all new pots & pans (ours are not induction-friendly!) I started to fight for it but then realized that (1) I could put one in later if it's wired properly for it (it is) and (2) if I gave in to DH with this he would be less likely to fight me on other things (like my $500 faucet or Trivection rather than just convection oven). We ended up getting one of the least expensive GE Profile cooktops for the simple reason that it was the only one that had a bridge element to use w/my griddle for pancakes, etc. In our old kitchen I just put the griddle on the two left (different sized) burners and it worked OK although the heat was uneven. With the bridge element (an element b/w the two equal-sized left burners), the griddle now heats evenly. ci_lantro....our cabinets sit on top of the tile, so that may be why our toe kick is the full height. I measured from the floor to the opening of the cabinet itself. We tiled the entire Kitchen, Foyer, & Powder Room...underneath all cabinets, etc. We thought this would provide us with the best water protection. We've already had two under-cabinet water leaks from our first DW that weren't detected immediately so the water sat under the DW & cabinets...luckily we had vinyl and it didn't go through. Our water is slightly acidic and did a number on our old GE DW. We replaced it w/a Maytag a few years ago and had no problems. We have a KA with the new kitchen...we'll see how long it lasts (OK, I'm hoping only about 3 or 4 years so I can replace it...I don't like it!)...See MoreOne big pull or two smaller ones for wide pot/dish drawers?
Comments (5)I think it's a personal preference, but also what type of pulls you'll have, and what other drawers are next to the wide ones. I originally thought I would put two handles on my 36" drawers (under the cooktop), but ended up with one 6". Drawers these days are so easy to pull out and one in the middle works for us. We used 4" on the smaller drawers. BUT, if yours are next to other drawers and 2 handles would look better, go for that! It's a good idea to buy some and hold them up to your drawers. There is no "one" answer... just what you think would work best for you!...See MoreNothing Left to Say
