Comments (12)I thought I sent a reply before but looks like I forgot to hit send before going to sleep yest night! thanks rdsso for sharing pics. Lovely transformation. It looks so warm and cozy. The little rocking chair is adorable! Is that a faux treatment on the brick? Did u by anychance use a product called brick-a-new? if not, could u tell me how you did it. I love what you have done with the bookcase also. I wish mine could be recessed like yours. :-( ideefixe: Revlon makes no color that looks good on swine. LOL! that's so true! It sure is an ugly duckling! As for the bookcases, maybe I will get a couple of qoutes from custom woodmakers..They are just so expensive around here but worth a try! I might have to wait for a long time before DH gets around to it. I was in ikea the other day. I was tempted to buy a couple of their bookcases to plonk them down and be done with it! What do you think? Thanks for your suggestions Vinaya Here is a link that might be useful: Ikea Liatorp...See MoreShopping for bookcases
Comments (17)Sorry I just now noticed the followup questions on my post. Yes, it's same Scherr's that's popular over on the kitchen forum, scherrs.com is their website. They make anything, but the catch is that they don't have a design expert as such on staff. I came up with the design myself, and refined it over several passes with the contact at Scherr's. The process was very easy and painless. The only thing they could probably do better is make suggestions where small changes could have a large impact on the cost. In my case it was, "here's what I want" and they said "here's the price". Total price was about half what a custom place wanted for a less elaborate design, however it did take about 6 months of nights and weekends to stain, finish, assemble, and install. (But I did get tired halfway through and took a month off.) Hope that helps. If you'd like to see more photos and details, let me know and I'll start a new thread (there's a matching desk as well)....See MoreSmall Kitchen Reveal - Complete with total redo of the plan during!
Comments (57)Lurkerlisa, that is fantastic! Unfortunately, I didn't find this site until I was in the middle of my project and design was done. This is a great idea! I just bought my label maker this am and I'm going to use the heck out of it to try and keep things tidy. You will be my organizing inspiration! I hope I have the nerve to put up pictures of my smaller kitchen when it's done. Thanks for sharing your beautiful kitchen with us....See MoreHelp with family room details
Comments (57)Oh, you all are just too sweet to stick with me on this and keep trying to find a workable solution. Many, many thank yous! : ) The doorway to the hall has a wall oven on one side (newly installed kitchen) and a bathroom on the other side. So, this layout will be staying around for quite some time. There is no other living room. I would like to put a sitting area in our attic master suite that DH and I can retreat to. Oh, we can hardly wait!! I'm so excited for him to start, or should I say, complete, that project. The floors in our family room will be covered in some type of wood look flooring. Medium toned, not too light, not too dark. I think I found a spot for most of the books. Valu had a great sale on 6' tall 2' wide Sauder bookcases today, $29 each. I plan to line our breakfast room with those and hope for the best. They're not high quality, I'm guessing a little below Ikea, but the little 2' x 3' units like that we own have held up quite well. They'll go up fast and they can be wiped down easily. I can post pics when we get them in place. And if that spot doesn't work, hey, they're modular. We can move them and all their 5,469,843 books, too! LOL While out I bought something to cover the south window. If it works well, I'll have more info for my picture window covering decision. I can see the value in keeping those coverings simple. DH also thought of putting a closet down by the window/heater. He thought that would be a good solution for storing stuff, too. I'm not sure yet whether we'll do a closet on both sides of the window or a closet on one side and the armoire on the other. Any opinions?...See MoreIdaClaire
