Nobody "needs" anything more than a $1K gas range. Virtually everybody can use the power AND evenness of a powerful open burner. Thermador 18k btu star burners are pretty good, better than most standard sealed burners, but American Range and Bluestar are in a different category. When boiling water it is obvious power is good but when frying high power is also helpful. When you drop cold food into hot oil it drops the temp so you are paraboiling and your food is absorbing oil instead of the oil crisping the outside and simply cooking the inside with energy/heat transfer. Searing, sautéing, and woking also much improved. You sear steak carmalized brown/black without grey meat. Woking without making your veggies mush boiling in water released by the vegetables themselves. Which brings me to my next recommendation up the price scale Bluestar RNB. About 1k more than AR but has continuous grates and is able to take a full pan sheet as well. If AR is off the options list for about $3k is GE Café 30" gas range. These are made in Mexico and have circuit boards or "computers." Next downs is NXR. Chinese company and Chinese made. Allegedly they buy many premium components from Europe and North America, ship them to China, assemble them with Chinese made frames and sheet metal then ship them back to America for $2k retail. Several fan threads on these ranges on GW. I have my doubts but you can read those threads yourself and come your own conclusion. If you want a rec for a $1.5k range without convection. Frigidaire Gallery Series FGGF301DNF double oven with one 17k btu and one 9.5k btu burner. Probably can find for a few hundred under $1.5k.

Hi Kayla - overall I like the dual fuel range. My husband loves the digital meat thermometer that came with it and we've made the best prime rib roasts since we've gotten this oven. The pre-heat does take awhile but we've gotten used to it. I've made cookies and they turn out great. We have also started using the lower oven more if we're baking something in a shallow dish, frozen garlic bread, rolls and etc. because it doesn't take as long to heat up. We've used the griddle to make sandwiches and pancakes and I'm happy with how that works and the easy clean up. I would say the stove top is easy to scratch if you aren't careful when you clean around the burners. Make sure you lift the grates up, off and set aside to clean and not just lift the front of the grates so you can wipe underneath. You'll scratch the little raised lip on the back of the stove top with the burner grates. I'm still not crazy about the overall height of the stove top but that's not really a fault. My husband on the other hand (6'2" tall) LOVES the dual range and all of it's features. He would highly recommend it to everyone. I like it. We also bought the matching over the range microwave. We bought it because you can bake in it and I thought we would really use that feature a lot but have found it takes a really long time to pre-heat the oven feature of the microwave and you have to use this little round raised baking rack which I have very few dishes that will fit, actually none now that I think about it. I thought it would be more like my old toaster/convection oven that sat on my counter top and it's really not at all. For the most part we just use the microwave to re-heat and warm things. Reviews over on Costco.com look great for the LG above. And you gotta love their return policy/warranty. Clearly this the the top of the line model at $3k (additional $400 rebate there). CR (Jan 2019) also goes on to say this below (though this model seems to be the exception): Which bakes better? Gas takes the cake here, with over two-thirds of the models in our ratings earning scores of Excellent or Very Good in our slew of baking tests. Just over half of the electric models reach those ratings. Very interested to know what you decided? I only have a 30 inch space in an existing kitchen to replace a dreadful electric solid surface worn out cooktop that came with the house and install a gas slide in range/oven. This home is a forced downsize and it's very difficult leaving our 48" Viking cooktop so I keep thinking the right high end range might lessen the pain.
