Weed Identification Help

Hey Guys,

Please help me identify these weeds in my backyard. They started showing up after we laid new SOD (St. Augustine). They are extremely coarse and feel like we're walking on smalls twigs.. I want them gone! :)

Look up shepherd's purse, Capsella bursa-pastoris. The seeds look quite a lot like your first picture, though maybe not exactly, so maybe it's a close relative. It is a very common weed in different continents.

Mmmm... 'deadly' poison? The degree of toxicity of S nigrum Is moot . It's toxic to a varying extents, yes, but you'll probably just get a stomach ache or be sick. Children would be worse affected. And it certainly isn't toxic to all animals. Black Nightshade is not the same plant as Deadly Nightshade. There are even strains grown for their fruit in some parts of the world.

You may want to ask in "name that plant" also. Have you asked the company from which you bought the sod?

I don't know, but i have them too. Mine make little purple flowers. I think it may be a type of spurge. We never had them until this past summer, but we had them in abundance. If they are not cut/mowed, but can grow quite tall. They are easy to pull after a rain, so I made my kids pull quite a few of them, but we still have thousands of them in the grass.
