Have: Crinum Lilies,Daylilies, and more to trade
Comments (5)Hey there Smoky...I'd like to talk about putting together a couple of large trades by the weekend if you're interested. I just read your page info and am amazed at your trade list and touched by your family ties to the garden as I share a similar story. I didn't make it to your want list but I have a huge assortment of plants to trade as well and will send you pics and lists in the next few days. I am a tax agent by day and this is crunch time!!! Please respond if you are interested and I'll get right back to you. Enjoy your time with mom always... I share the gardening spirit with all my family, here and gone! It keeps us connected:)Good night!--Jenn...See Moresuggestions for hosta-like foliage that's deer resistant
Comments (11)ok i know this is an old post, but since i've had a few years to experiment, i thought i should share my findings... my best-performing hosta-like plant has turned out to be jack frost brunnera.. i only like the 'jack frost' variety because of its silver foliage, the others don't compare. they are very hardy in our climate, don't have any insect or fungus problems, although sometimes slugs will chew on them (we put down sluggo and it seems quite controllable). i've been frustrated with the heuchera, they get eaten a lot by the deer, and same with the bergenia.. pulmonaria comes a close second although if there is a lot of rain in spring, they seem to attract fungus and then look sparse the rest of the year. helleborus is nice but not quite as hosta like as i want... great glossy green leaves though......See MoreFFO on Lava Flow, more daylilies, lilies and roses.
Comments (18)While I hate winter just because I really hate winter weather I really love spring and summer and fall here. It is just so pretty. I walk around the park often. It is open with mostly lawn, lots of big trees and some shrubs. The beach area is sandy and large. There is a fishing jetty which the fishermen like. If I get tired of open and want woodland trails I just keep walking as directly next to that park is a county nature preserve with nicely marked trails so you just walk thru from one to the other. I like to visit the pond area there that is fed by an underground spring. That has beach front also but you can't swim there, just walk along there. So I feel that I have all the benefits of a large estate grounds with none of the upkeep! I can look out the big picture window in my living room and actually see the water from my home....See MorePopular Daylilies You Don't Like
Comments (36)I used to not like spiders but am slowly coming around. Now I think I like some examples of almost every form, just depends on the color combination & other attributes. I don't care for trumpet shaped blooms either. As a rule, I like dark contrasting eyes but am not all that crazy about the lighter watermarks, though there are exceptions. Guess that's why I am not as fond of the Munsons in general (all you Munson lovers on this board, please don't flog me!). I also don't care for the orange/purple combo most of the time. There are quite a few daylilies with exaggerated edges/chicken fat I like but I hate that most of the time that edge is a yellow/gold color. I would like to see more bubbly edges that are the same color as the daylily self or even white. Just anything but yellow! I don't like most daylilies with "toothy" edges. I would prefer saturated reds, pinks & purples with the same color throats as opposed to a yellow or green throat though that seems to be the norm. That being said, I've never culled a daylily or given all of one variety away because I can usually find some trait about it I admire. Danielle...See MoreWendy Johnston
