Brian is right on. Buy them now, stick them in pots full of a rich organic mix and let them grow inside. If they get pleny of sunlight and a decent amount of water, by the time spring comes around the corm will be nicely developed and it will have enough leaves for vigorous growth when you transplant it into the ground. Very occasionally Home Depots in GA will carry them. Your best bet around here is to find a nursery that can order one for you, or search online and get one shipped to you. Good luck.

I checked my banana tree roots and awesome news my banana tree roots r healthy and firm now I was hoping u could recommend a great organic fertilizer for banana trees that is not very expensive to buy I love to buy off of Amazon so if Amazon has one I can buy that u would recommend that would b very helpful sorry I did not mention before about the variety I have but they r the edible kind I know one is called a ice cream cold hardy and the other one is edible as well and it's a dwarf banana tree I don't know in detail what the name of them is but that's what I can remember now if I remember to bring them in in the winter this year and to b not do lazy then I will have it made

Dirtdeb, The only place I have found/purchsed the Musa Basjoo is from Logee's Greenhouses in Danielson, CT. The place is an AWESOME place to visit, but, if you can't make the drive, they also do mail order. They have a website as well. Frances, I don't have any experience with over wintering them, yet. I tried to dig mine up to winter over in the basement, but that was a failed effort. The foliage dies after the first hard frost, which you cut to the ground, so all you are "overwintering" is the root system. I do believe it is recommended to insulate it with thick mulching. Logee's has a specimen that they overwinter--I believe they described how they mulched it in their catalog. Even if I wasn't able to winter one over, I'd buy another the next year. I love the dramatic statement they make in the garden...especially now that I'm into tropical stuff! Emily
