Beadboard Paintable Wallpaper - Questions
Comments (38)Moonkat, wow, it looks like you're making just great headway. I hope you're not overdoing it as I know overhead work is hard on you, especially on the neck. Ouch! If you have one of those seed-filled u-shaped neck pillows, you can put it in the microwave (for 1-2 mins, no more) just before bed and fall asleep with it wrapped around your neck. Yum. I do that every night all winter long. I'm so happy you got a sander you really like. The right tools make a huge difference to getting the job done -- or even wanting to. Hmmm... I ordered on the 26th, and the due date is "January 30, 2009 - February 4, 2009." I ordered through amazon.com but it's coming from the same place yours did. I am eager to see it - lol. ~~ Laurie, yes you can buy a kit (from http://www.elitetrimworks.com/home.php) but I was just doing my own thing and sort of copying the photo. I have a chop saw and I really like it, though I'm super careful with it because it could take off a finger in a blink. ~~ Helene, oh you did wallpaper over it. I am hoping after my mudding and sanding that my walls will be fine under the wallpaper. But I don't think they're good enough to do that other kind of panelling with the little boxes, at least not yet. The longer wall got super torn up from removing those boards. I like the idea of doing it horizontally. that could save time, too. I'll keep it in mind. ~~ Well, everyone, I am trying to decide if I can make the walls look good enough with the beadboard wallpaper, since the other way is so much work and I'm wearing out. What do you think? If you had a split entry, would you do beadboard panelling on the walls? Or opt for something more formal at your entry?...See MoreRemoving glue residue from wallpaper
Comments (3)It might not be all glue, it could be the seams of the paper itself. Most wallpaper is printed on top of a white back and if your seams are not super tight, the white edge of the paper shows. Professional paper hangers often overlap the edges of the paper slightly and do what is called a double cut through both layers of paper so that the seams are really tight. If that is the problem, there are some tricks you could try. One is to get a small amount (a quart is usually the smallest) of acrylic paint matched to the main color of your paper and rub that lightly into the seam to help stain the white edge. I have used eyeliner on black paper, worked well. If it is just glue, you could try a solution of TSP and hot water. As well as DIF there is a product called GooGone that might work for you as well. As javiwa said, test on a scrap of paper first to make sure it does not damage or remove the color in your paper as well, and work gently....See MoreWallpaper seams starting to show
Comments (18)Update: Paper hanger came by today. She pointed out that all of the places where the seams are showing are near HVAC supplies. While we haven't used heat yet in the house, she says that even A/C on and off can cause it. She told me that she could touch it up and make it invisible with a little paint. I trusted her (she was great); she mixed up a little paint and tested the match on a swatch of the wallpaper. Then she spread a tiny bit of it with a damp cloth over the seams; went over it with another damp cloth and voila; they're gone! Looks perfect. She said she'll come back again if anything else shows, but she doubts that it will. She even found and touched up places I hadn't seen. If anyone needs a great paper hanger in Chicago's north side/suburbs, let me know....See MoreHelp identifying wall paper and lighting
