Your Favorite Pink David Austin Roses
Comments (53)I plan to put Wildeve next to a fence - so if it does get long canes I will have something to attach it to. Jay [that's my son's name too!], glad to hear you like this rose - got it at an excellent discount for $5 in a big pot - it now has lots of buds. I have quite a few pink Austins - many are young so I haven't been able to evaluate yet. Am thinking I need to get Queen of Sweden, heard lots of good reports on it. England's Rose started out great last year, covered in blooms. Maybe I should have pinched them - the bush is still alive but not very vigorous - not going to let it bloom until/unless it recovers and starts growing. Love my James Galway - strong, upright bush that has a beautiful spring display then always has some blooms on it. Just got Sharifa Asma - covered in buds. I have a very old Mary Rose that does well. Love Tess of the d'Ubervilles - its on a huge fan trellis that it covers - it now has loads of big buds. Like Lady of Megginch - think I need to fertilize it more - when it blooms, you can see them all over the yard. Also have a large Scepter d'Isle that I like a lot - soft pink blooms, healthy bush, reliable rebloom. Charles Rennie Macintosh is another favorite - almost a lilac pink. I would like to see a stronger bush, but maybe its time for it to "leap" - it will be 3 yrs. old this year. That Alnwick rose is beautiful, Sylvia! Comments (10)Westerland seems to fit your requirements! It's described as a "shrub/climber" although mine grows as a tall, upright shrub to about 5' (I trim it quite heavily in the spring so it would grow taller if I let it). It stays upright - the canes are not lax at all. The flowers are large, double and bright apricot/orange - very eye-catching. It doesn't seem to be bothered by any disease problems here and blackspot is a big problem here where it's hot and humid. It's listed as being hardy to zone 5. Incredibly, I don't have a picture of it but you can look it up on Helpmefind. I also have Easy Living, which I like very much although mine is a small shrub. Heaven on Earth is a shrub that produces beautiful huge pastel apricot blooms. Perhaps my favorite in an orange/apricot color is Pat Austin, which does very well here....See MoreYour Favorite Mauvey-Pink Rose?
Comments (14)2 older floribundas immediately come to mind - the lovely Harkness rose, Lagoon and the Le Grice (a masterful breeder of unusually coloured roses) rose, Lilac Charm. Now I am thinking about this, yet another LeGrice rose called Ripples is also a rather lovely notable pinky-lilac. All are beautifully formed singles with delicate ruffles to the petal edges but, like many of the mauves and purples, need a little pampering and careful placement. A newer rose for me which I am watching avidly in my garden is Odyssey, from the breeder of Rhapsody in Blue (Cowlishaw). Odyssey is a much smaller rose and lacks the ungainly growth of RiB, as well as having a paler lavender colour. I do not care for any of the double lilacs or 'blue' roses such as Blue Moon or Blue Girl - I am convinced that singles or at most, semi-doubles work better with this coloration than the more 'classical' high centred HT shape....See MoreWhat's Your Favorite Pink Rose?
Comments (52)I'm going to put a twist on this. You have Double Delight (my mother's favorite and mine is gorgeous). You want a pink to put with it. OK. There are just so many wonderful pink roses out there the decision could be difficult at best. So, let me see... Double Delight even at it's very best is about 4 feet tall. At least mine doesn't seem to want to get much larger. I see a lot of folks offering Tiffany which in intself is gorgeous! However, Tiffany in my garden had a tendency to get to be at least 7 feet tall. The same with Touch of Class, Heritage and a number of these beautiful pinks including the wonderful Gemini. It appears to me, from the way you describe this, that you would like Double Delight to be the focal rose of this garden. May I suggest Fragrant Cloud? I don't have any pictures, but you can find one here http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pics.php?l=2.1785&nr=56470. There are really a lot of pink roses that would be wonderful with Double Delight. How about a floribunda, Our Lady of Guadloupe? It has a tendency to be probably a little smaller than Double Delight, but being a floribunda, it may not have the cutting quality you are looking for. There is always Chicago Peace, a gorgeous sport of the Peace rose and a very lovely shade of dusty pink. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=1147 I absolutely love the color of this rose. It too, should get about the same size as DD. To the person who sent the picture of Classy Carol...can you tell me more about this rose? I have plans on getting two next year, one for me and one for my SIL, Carol. It looks beautiful. Thanks tons. Here is a link that might be useful: Gardening and Other Stuff...See Morediane_nj 6b/7a
