Wall decor for a 2 story wall
I need help with ideas to decorate family room with some wall decor on a 2 story wall. It is a huge blank wall with just a fireplace in the middle. I have not been able to come up with anything appropriately sized for the wall. I just got the wall painted with SW gold vessel and want to add decor.

Comments (7)She did. She has a full two story wall and she utilized all of it with a mix of pictures in small and large sizes but no canvases, which I think is a lovely idea btw. She did hers a long time ago when French Country was just coming out. She has brick flooring in her kitchen/dining area and so that style fit well with her house. The frames and wall over all had a more traditional feel and the scale of most of the pictures was probably half the size of the canvas or smaller. A lot of frames = a lot of dusting. Comments (26)The demilune table you have is very nice for the spot. Don't make the mistake of thinking you need to fill the whole wall just because it's tall. Try to keep things in proportion and remember to "decorate where you live". That means hanging artwork, mirrors, etc. as if your ceilings were 8 or 9 feet tall. Whatever you hang over your entry table should be about 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the table and no taller than the height of your door frames. I know it seems like there's going to be a lot of empty space, but that's okay. I moved from a 1949 cape with 7 1/2 foot ceilings to a house with 11' vaulted ceilings and had to learn that things really do look better hung at normal height. The current chandelier seems to be well proportioned for the space and hung at the right height. When you replace it, try to stay to something in that same size range. You dont have to change anything, if you are happy with the black then just add a black overmantel. We had one added to our fireplace.
9 years agoYou can create a water line...either real as below, or just a visual one by ignoring everything above where a single-height ceiling would've been.

I don't know if my ceiling is quite as tall, but I used large pieces of art plus a cabinet(which appears smaller in the picture)to take up a lot of the wall space. The ceiling goes up about 2 ft more above the smallest centered picture.

Kind of the overmantel idea, but using contrasting color to extend the visual space. And Tibb's windows :)
