Regular Detergent in a HE Machine
Comments (84)food for thought, top load/front load both have bearings, both have seals, both hold x amount of detergent and water both rotate back and forth....now with that said the pump found in most front load machines can be found in top load machines as well. they may be different shape they may bolt on differently but bottom line.. they both operate the same and are made of the same guts....as for the bearings, both top and front load machines have the same type of bearings and seals and many with exact part numbers.... my point to all this is.. your tech is going to tell you don't do this and don't do that because it is his job and if he does not do his job he will get fired.....Hello!!!! Use your heads..... now.. * detergent is detergent......FALSE!!!! * you can use reg. detergent in front loader... TRUE depending on amount used and type of water you have you just have to do a little trial and error untill find out what ratio of soap to use, some detergents have little to no suds and work very well now for my final rant.....COST OF REPAIR !!!! 500.00 to 800.00 to replace bearings in a washer.....complete ripoff typical set of bearings and seal can be purchased for $50.00 and as far as the repair work.. 1-2 hours labor at most on a bad day so use your heads, do some research, and don't take your techs word on every thing, even if hes a nice guy!!!! so there it is people, my rant for the month lol...See MoreLow Sudsing HE detergent
Comments (3)Hi: I am new here and new to the FL world as well. I purchased a Frigidaire FL machine a few months ago and have been experimenting with several detergents. First I tried All HE liquid, the regular version, not the 3X. It worked pretty well, but I did see some suds running down the inside of the window during both the wash and the rinse cycles. Then I tried Tide HE powder. It cleaned very well, but I found it to be very sudsy. Even with half the normal dose (half to the number 1 line on the scoop), I almost always found a suds pouf on the inside of the window when the wash was done, and sometimes streams of suds would run down the window during the spins. Next was Method HE liquid. It worked well and didnÂt make many suds, but even a scant half-capful (and the cap is tiny) left a strong scent in the clothes. Finally, I tried the Sears Ultra Plus powder that comes in the bucket. I bought the Oxi Clean version because that had the best rating among the Sears detergents in Consumer Reports. I love it! It makes hardly any suds, rinses clean, and leaves no scent in the clothes. Plus, its cleaning power is superb. I have a jacket that is more than a few years old that has had a persistent ring-around-the-collar problem. I have pretreated and washed that thing many times, and the ring has never completely come out. But once through the Frigidaire with the Ultra Plus and no pretreating, it was gone! Probably a combination of the FL machine and the detergent, but I was amazed. As you can tell, I am now a Sears detergent fan. Thanks....See MoreFL detergent recommendations, first time owner.
Comments (6)Hi, I'm in NYC and have had two different cheap compact front loaders ( An Italian made Whirlpool and a 10 year old Malber) over the last 10 years and currently have a Bosch dishwasher. I use both liquid and powder detergents in the washer and just dose carefully. I usually use All Free and Clear for a family member who has significant sensitivities to all fragrances and dyes. I play around with a variety of detergents including various ethnic specific detergents for myself. I think I'm becoming obsessed. LOL Yes, IMHO too much of any softener or liquid detergent and cold water will gunk up and eventually kill any washer. Warm and hot water are your friends. In my building I usually only get between 105- 115 degree water which isn't all that hot, but my machine does not dumb down the water temp so I'm ok for now. I will be adding a tiny point of use water heater just to get true hot water washes. My dishwasher did not do a good job with Kirkland detergent and only adequately with Cascade complete, however I ordered Dropps from Amazon and had better results, but still not as good as my older Bosch I have in my weekend place. Good luck. I think you will enjoy having clean clothes when you want them instead of waiting for the service to bring them back. And the pleasures of a dishwasher are never to be underrated....See MoreLaundry process and detergent advice for an HE machine newbie?
Comments (16)I'm not sure what the capacity of Electrolux 617 is as that will affect how much detergent to use, as well as water hardness etc, but here are my experiences. washer: Bosch next 500 FL 8 kg/17.6 lb capacity ~4.0 CF with onboard heater water hardness: moderately hard detergent: Persil original liquid, Tide Free liquid and powder A normal load usually fills the FL tub - 2/3 to full. It's a combination of weight and volume, low to normal soilage laundry from daily wear. I use 1.5-2.0 tablespoons (equal to 22.5-30.0 mL) of any of the above detergents, which is 1/2 to 2/3 of line 1 (~45 mL on most brands). Sometimes I also include the same amount of baking soda with each wash. 1/4 cup of vinegar in lieu of FS. Typically I do profile washes from cold water heated to warm, hot or XXsanitary temperatures. hot or XXsanitary are used for towels and bedding like duvet covers, bed sheets, mattress protector, pillow cases. I only use cold water on "delicate" for wool sweaters, tops, pants, silk ties, etc. I do not use pods as their dosage is too much for my use. Each pod contains ~45 mL of detergent....See MoreRelated Professionals
