Evelyn or Strawberry Hill?
Comments (23)Treehugger (love your name), I'm not worried about the color. In my area Strawberry Hill is one of the most beautiful colors I've ever seen on a rose. One of those hard-to-define, complex apricot brushed pinks that takes my breath away, even in scorching triple digit summers. I also did flip over its fragrance, tho I'm pleased to hear that Heritage smells even better, since I'd love to get Heritage some day. I'm wondering how heavily Strawberry Hill blooms and how fast it repeats. That's really unfortunate that your Austins wash out. I haven't seen that happen in any of the gardens I work in. Even if there's some paling from scorching summer sun, the colors remain vivid and distinct from one another. We do put a lot of effort into building healthy soil, but I have no idea if that's what makes the difference. Take a look at our rose evaluations on Humpty Dumpty House Facebook (link below), and you'll see the color range for all the roses we grow, including when they're most washed out. . . . . . Visits to Humpty Dumpty House on facebook are much appreciated during this difficult time. If you like what we do, please give us a page "like". This simple act can help us get the gardens and our work back up and running during my absence due to an injury. ~Thank you! https://www.facebook.com/HumptyDumptyHouse Here is a link that might be useful: Facebook Page for Humpty Dumpty House...See MoreStrawberry Hill
Comments (6)Very nice, Adam. I, too, love the fragrance of this rose. I have it in a rather inaccessible spot on a back fence in a raised bed and I really regret planting it there because I can't get to smell the blooms as often as I would like to. I don't see pale pink blooms on mine. Do you have yours in full sun? My SH faces east and is shaded from the afternoon sun by the fence. Jo...See MoreStrawberry Hill as a shrub
Comments (6)I'll be interested in the response you get Dave. Mine is at least 4 ft tall and floppy all over like the inflatable air wavers at used car lots. It's only been in one season and I didn't prune more than deadheading. I need a trellis or move it to the fence line. Actual photo of strawberry hill Jk.. it is so pretty and very healthy but thorny . Mine needs propped up for sure though but one year isn't a fair assessment:) sure does smell good!...See MoreZone 5b climbers (Strawberry Hill question)
Comments (33)Mischievous Magic, Strawberry Hill is beautiful! I have decided that if my roses are going to be shorter than they were in OR and CA then I will just have twice as many roses! And buy some strong climbers, too! How about trying some climbers like “New Dawn, JAMES Galway, or Kiss of Desire” They are all frilly and look like Pink English roses but grow very tall! Similar to Strawberry Hill. However, they are more vigorous. New Dawn is supposed to be one of the best vigorous climbers you can have. I see it starting to grown on my arbor outside, after snowy winter, it’s still completely green leaved! One of the best roses!
