Our trip across the pond
Comments (23)Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Kathleen, DH says he took an average of 200 pictures a day. Yup. Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! LindaC, I know. Im still exhausted. Speaking of the V&A, did you know there was a Dale Chihuly chandelier in the entrance room?...See More“After” picture of 24-36” of 2015 leaves (and plan for 2016 leaves)
Comments (3)While I was digging potatoes, I was surprised and horrified at how little organic matter there seemed to be in the soil below the 2015 leaf addition. Aside from the 2014 bust, we'd added pickup loads of leaves, bedding, etc. every year since approximately 2006. We rototilled material in the first couple years, then switched to sort of a broadfork method, then switched to leaving material on the surface. Since I was digging in this bed anyway, I decided I might as well excavate it section by section and back fill with layers of leaves and soil (with the soil coming from the next section). There's a layer of white-grey clay about 18" down, so that's the excuse I used for not digging any deeper. When I got to the second-to-last 4' section, I decided to experiment with adding a couple "keyhole" bins. No idea if they'll work or how long before they fill in the way the old outhouses used to... They turned out to be a nice "tipping height" though :)...See MoreScore!!! 2 new hydrangeas at half price
Comments (6)Yeah, good buy. Very nice! And the blooms are in excellent shape (not brown or brownish)!!! The leaves are also in good condition, which means they have received good TLC at Swanson's. Beni's sepals have started turning pink and Romance's have switched from a lacecap-ish look (when the blooms are new) to a full mophead look, which gives the blooms a look like they recently opened... I like that!!! Wow, that is so nice! Romance has a Bloomstruck effect with those multicolored blue & pink blooms too. I have not seen that hybrid for sale locally and hear so little about Youme's here!!!! They have others called Forever, Eternity, Passion, Romance (this one is the one you bought)... Did they have any of those others? I wonder... why they are not more for sale in the US? Congrats, Shirley!!! And enjoy the Swanson's Fall Festival next weekend. PS - Can you tell from the Youme Labels if they re-bloom? I have not seen an answer to that question in other posts....See MorePoorly scored concrete patio--Can this be fixed?
Comments (5)"Can this be fixed diy?" That depends upon the sophistication level and fussiness of the customer and the pride of the contractor. You could wax some shims the same thickness as the corner saw kerfs, fill the chips with gray anchoring epoxy, then pull the shims. You could fill the curved kerf with the same and have the saw cut made straight. You are always going to see these repairs. It is quite subjective as to how objectionable they will be. Some folks will say "Absolutely not!" while others set up the patio furniture and forget them. Were I the concrete guy, I'd bust it up and start over. No way would those pictures get on the interwebby with my name on them. I speak from experience: A month ago, my saw fence drifted and the flange on the sink wasn't wide enough to allow a square re-cut. No crap reveals on my jobs. Ever. The customers had to live with an improperly installed sink with blue masking tape covering the gap for a month while their custom made sink was fabricated. The original sink was an 18 gauge stock Kohler with zero radius corners. The replacement is a 14 gauge tank with radius corners. They didn't mind the wait and I didn't mind not having to replace a 5' x 12' granite island. I fix my screwups. They should too. P.S: An apron sink must be installed parallel to the cabinet front, not the countertop front edge, or the apron ends won't return to the cabinet without a visible gap. This countertop edge and cabinet aren't parallel; the left side of the sink extends past the countertop edge, the right is flush. I clipped the corners to fool your eye. Let's see if these guys have any tricks....See Moreemilymch
