Hmmm. Sorry to hear that. I had thought that sea grass was supposed to be one of the longer lasting of those natural fibre rugs. I've only had jute and I've found that I have to get new ones every 5 or six years. I've never liked having latex backing so I don't get it. If it still looks good and you've got it on a pad, does it matter if the latex is crumbling? Is it causing a mess or do you think the seagrass will eventually fail because the backing is no longer in tact?

I bought a seagrass rug from Pottery Barn about 4 years ago. The backing is fine, but the seagrass itself shows traffic patterns. I'll be replacing it in a few years, and not with seagrass. I know many people swear by seagrass and I'm sure they bought something of higher quality that PB.

Worse now: There's an imprint on my hardwood floor from the pattern of the seagrass --- not the pad. It looks almost like the finish has worn off in a pattern, kind of reflecting the unevenness on the back of the rug.

Yikes!! I just bought a large sea grass rug for living area and a runner for entry. We don't walk through the area to get from room to room, so hopefully it will hold up well. I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on it.

Yep, not that I clean that frequently under my rugs, but at first I assumed it was just smudges. However, it definitely looks like the finish has been dulled in a pattern, especially when you look at it from an angle.

I also just got a new seagrass rug for the LR. When I checked the back of the rug, there's a distinct pattern from the unevenness of the front pattern. Now, of course, I'm worried that this pattern will also leave an imprint on my hardwood floors.

First thing is to put a felt pad underneath.

Wow, that's terrible! I just bought cheap seagrass runners for our closet. I did put a felt pad under them. Now I have to remember to check them for damage on the back over time, though I guess it's not a high traffic area.

My seagrass rug came with that rubber backing attached. I guess I better by a rug pad for them. Any suggestions as to what type is best?

When you look at the back of your rugs, do you see kind of an imprint from the pattern on the front?

To be honest, I didn't pay much attention to it. I'll take a look later when I get home.
