if my danes seem uncomfortable for any reason, i give them a regular pepcid and a couple of gas-x tablets.

My Lab gets needy and has a hard time getting comfortable when she has gas. Her abdomen will also feel more firm and I can hear her tummy gurgle. When she's really uncomfortable I too will give her a gasX. My vet says you have to be careful though and not make a habit of it because it can harm the good bacteria in their digestive track.

Can I suggest you check the ingredients of the food you're feeding him? Some of the grain free higher protein foods have beans and lentils within the first 5 ingredients as well as peas. I was feeding our lab a very expensive food and she was always feeling ill. I finally figured out it had beans in it hence the gas; switched the food and it helped considerably.

Thank you all for your input and I will get some gas-x and use sparingly. Lukkirish I checked the ingredients in Taste of the Wild, which is what they eat and it does have peas as a top ingredient. I just read where it can be problematic. I truly don't think it is the food but rather stuff he finds in the garden. However, I will watch it closely. My 13 YO is such a perky senior after I changed him to TOTW and regular teeth cleanings, I'd be disappointed if I have to change his food, but I will def keep a close eye to determine any correlation

My puppy was having digestive issues and I checked his grain free food labels-soy was among the first three ingredients. I know soy can cause gas because it's hard to digest (for humans too!). I switched to another product without soy and we can all breathe easier:)
