I assume this will abut a countertop, and when you say everything else is white, does that mean the countertop as well? Without knowing other details, I would say white grout.

i really love the way a darker grout pops with subway tile so i vote go with the warm grey/taupe. what color will your counters and cabs be? btw, i love that tile. can i ask the price?

Shoot, I somehow cut out the part of the post where I had said what the rest of the kitchen would be like. Oak butcherblock counters and white IKEA cabinets. With stainless appliances/drawer pulls. The floor is the only thing in the kitchen we aren't redoing (cost prohibitive) and it is large white hex tiles with white grout.

And yes, I love white subway tiles with dark grout also, but usually that's more a straight-up white tile with dark gray/charcoal. I wasn't sure how it'd be with this slightly unusual tile (white fronts/bronze edges), and also with a warmer grout color. But I also initially liked the idea because I thought it would play nicely with the warmth of the wood counters...so hard to decide!

OK, so we went to home depot tonight and looked at the colors in more depth and decided to go with white. For the exact reason you mention -- it will help highlight the tile and the rustic look of the edges, which I think will be obscured by dark grout. Was glad to come home and see a comment that validated our choice! We did pick one shade down from the brightest white ("Snow White" Polyblend).

Are you installing yourselves? Either way, whether you do it yourselves or have an installer, do a sample board of grouted tile. My installer did several different colors to help me make a decision. Oldbat2be has a post showing how to do a sample board.

If you mean the NEMO in NYC Flatiron they are very helpful…I would be concerned only with the gunk collecting on the raised grout althought I love the look you chose. Having said that, I have white grout on white Mexican subway-type tiles (from Ideal Tile here in NYC) and I never had an issue with dirty grout and doubt if I've ever cleaned it except in tiny spots after frying. Looks nice…..Nemo is a good place with good prices….wish I could remember name of the lovely saleswoman I had there a few weeks ago.

Having similar problem myself after choosing black and white granite honed counter and wondering if I should do white subways….this is in a newly bought Florida condo…granite seems to be the "bargain" material for countertops now even if some may call it "out of style!"

I think white is best as well (I was looking at white penny rounds with a darker outline for a floor and came to the same conclusion that white was the only grout that would show off the edge), but I second romy's advice to do a sample board just to be sure. Grout is just as important as the tile in my opinion and you want to get it right.
