We have a handheld corded Oreck and love it. It has several different attachments to go with it. We've had it for many years. We also have 3 upright Oreck vacuums and think they are the best.

I have two, a hand held (has a shoulder carry strap) Oreck that I use a lot with the soft brush attachment for drapery tops, lampshades, furniture. The good stuff.

For wood work, window sills, floor corners, odds and ends of dirtier pick up...a Shop Vac brand one gal, also with an extension and soft brush attachment.

I depend on them both for my normal household cleaning. And both are corded, not battery. Both have filter bags to catch dust, dirt.

(biggest jobs, I summon DH with his two much larger shop vacs ;) )

(Linda, I've got two upright Orecks too, one at each end of the house. I upgraded to one Magnesium model two years ago and love it)

I have the Dyson V6 Motorhead and love it! The 5-7 minutes is only when you set the power on high. Otherwise, it's 20-22 minutes of power between full charges. 2/3 of my house is Saltillo floors. The rest is medium high carpet. I never had to use the high setting even on carpet. It cleans very well and recharges quite quickly.

I like the fact that it's a stick which makes it easy to vacuum under low clearance areas. In other words, the dirt/dust bin is not a lower end as with the other brand models.

I also have a Dyson upright but haven't had the need to use it since I got the V6. I did a lot of online research and read many reviews before settled for the V6.

For someone in a wheelchair like me, the Dyson V6 is most convenient. No cord or vacuum hose to run over or wrap around the wheels. I can move in my wheelchair easily during vacuuming with the V6.

I accidentally found out about this model while watching a Korean show. I didn't know that Dyson came out with this cordless model for a few years now. Wish I knew it sooner.

Thank you all for your thoughts and information. Ntt_hou, is this a hand-held vacuum you're referring to, or a stick upright for floors? I didn't realize the battery runs that much longer on the lower setting. I will definitely check the Oreks, as I'd forgotten about that brand. Thanks again!

Morz8, you sound like us....a vacuum at each end of the house. (And for us, one in between) Two of them take the same size bags, the third is different. What fun trying to remember "which" bags to buy for "which" sweepers. LOL I would highly recommend an Oreck to anyone. They aren't cheap, but they are excellent.

Each Dyson V6 model comes in different color. The main vacuum are all the same for all the V6 models. It's the amount of accessory in the package that differs with each model (eg: Motorhead, Animal, Absolute, etc.). The Absolute model, the highest cost, has an additional HEPA filter and come with all the accessories.

What I did was purchased the Motorhead model and purchased 1 additional accessory that I wanted. Much cheaper this way.
