It requires 40A not 30A. By the way if you don't have the manual, here it is. The inside of the lid where the jumpers are supposedly shows how to strap it. If you have the three wire cord, it's got to be set up properly. The only other configuration would have a cord with FIVE wires in it. Here is a link that might be useful: GAG manual

If seedlings are close together, I would snip the ones I don't want. However, yours are far enough apart that pulling one won't disrupt the others. There are some City Picker container types that are sold with a trellis. Since you didn't get that one, you will have to set it where you can have some trellis nearby. For example, put it near the edge of patio or sidewalk somewhere. The trellis vertical shafts will be in the ground and you buy netting or make your own. You can also do the same on a patio or cemented area if you put the vertical shafts in a container of cement to hold them down. In this case you mentioned you have a deck. Using the deck's horizontal structure, along with additional support for the vines, will be a great way to decorate the deck as the plants get bigger. I think the current plants are fine but definitely there is a reason that many container varieties exist. However, with your deck, it sounds like you won't be lacking for horizontal space, and you can make vertical space, so I think you can be OK with keeping what you have.

Too bad the 2 in the middle are the worst looking as they are the best positioned for caging/trellising. But I guess I'd cut those two off and leave the 4 corner ones for now. But you may have to eliminate at least 1 of them also depending on what sort of trellis/support you plan to use. I'd rig up some sort of tall 4 legged tepee set in the center of the box with lots of strings tied around it for support for them to climb or make a round 5' tall tower out of fencing. Like Rodney said, no way to know. You need to put plant tags on each plant when you plant them. As with Earthboxes, when they say 5-6 cukes they mean small bush container varieties not big vining variety. Plus they like to over-estimate the numbers by at least 1/2 again because it makes them sound better for growing. Dave

I have had a hard time with leaf curl on all but my Sungold and my dwarf plants...hot hot hot weather and then rain have made keeping water levels consistent an issue. (Hence the Plant Nanny's...I don't know that they actually do much, but they do make me feel a little better) I usually stick my fingers down into the soil to check and see if it feels damp, but also go by plant tops being "wilty"...these two have had some of the most significant leaf roll, but the other one is significantly healthier looking so far. I was thinking Septoria because of the rain possibly causing splash back on the leaves...the two PB's were ones I had not done a lot of trimming out of lower branches yet...just the very very bottom ones. Only time will tell I suppose. I am going back out tonight after work to see if I need to pull more leaves and will give them a quick copper spray.
